I guess everyone knows I am right up to this point, purely by deft reasoning.

So here comes the cold hard proof.

In CCTV fighting footage on stuff like Crimewatch, also foreign Crimewatch, why do you never see people doing martial arts? It's just punching and slapping.

Because....

When you're sober you sense the atmosphere is "nasty" and will most probably walk away before trouble (violence) starts. If you get into a mass street brawl - you're probably too drunk to fight effectively anyway.

One of those skinny hardbitten Glaswegian ladies, you know the kind, big hair and lots of gold jewellery from Lizzy Duke, would knock several bells of sh!te out of any of the above.

Spot on Michael.
I've been training in aikido for 6 years now. In that time, I've had zero occasions to use it in anger. Fingers crossed, it'll stay that way.

I'd also second what's been said about mixed martial arts. Professional boxers are very good fighters, no doubt about that, but you never see them reaching the top in MMA.

What's the point of not using it in anger? I thought it was all about anger.

I don't know how tall you are, but imagine a similar sized Barry McGuigan coming at you, shouting 'YOU STIRRED MY TEA WITH A COFFEE SPOON YOU NONCE!!!!!!'

What would you do.

I've got a mate - some weight, but not tall, who does something called extreme fighting (or something like that.)

He is clearly 'kin hard. I have never known him get even anywhere near a fight outside of training or competition. People just back off him, even big lary drunks.

He did say once he would be scared to have a pop at someone in a pub after a few beers in case he did some damage.

I also know a chap in his fifties, martial arts, 2 hip replacements, about 5'4"

He is like lightning. Incredible poise and balance. Not sure many 56 year old crocked boxers would take him.

Of course this is all anecdotal, but then the original proposition is flawed.

All my stuff is anecdotal as well. I'm just saying that boxers are the hardest.

Any boxer who's had a few fights in a ring could take an extreme fighter.

Why don't you just find a porn site and get it all out your system for a bit?

Done that, been there, bought the porn mag.

Tell us more about the extreme fighter. Does he chafe?

Dunno. Give me your address, I'll send him round. He might teach you some manners.

Ok. I shall go to my local boxing club and get a 13 year old starter who will use your extreme fight friend like a pet.

Looks like Darwin was wrong then.

Darwins wrongness was fruitful to the extent that it helped prove the point that:

Any trained boxer can kick shoot out of any martial expert, trained or drunk or neither.
