Brooks proofide; is it just expensive dubbin?

A friend bought a Brooks B17 in 2018 about a year after I bought mine. He is 10kg lighter than me and cycles about the same number of miles.

I use proofide annually, he uses dubbin monthly. His saddle looks fantastic but sags, mine is a bit dull and hasn't needed adjustment yet.

Maybe dubbin does soften too much.

Brooks Proodhide is made from lard and Brut33, then sold in fancy pots for a massive mark up.

I dubbined my brooks saddle out of guilt after getting it soaked and the left in car for 24hrs to dry!
Seems to have helped it tbh. Not ridden it again yet!

I doubt if a mere dubbining is enough for it to forgive you. They do not forgive and do not forget.
