Oh yes it can, and I have a long list of repair bills to prove it.....

We've had two Picassos, the original and the grand and yes things can go wrong but these are workaday vehicles that don't cost the moon to buy or repair. And the drive is smooth and comfortable.

The current one we got as citroen approved and reaped the reward on a couple of faults - but we've had nothing catastrophic.

I ran the first one into the ground, so I expect things to go wrong.

We put winter tyres on it year round. This one we do twice yearly trips into the winter Alps and it behaves without issue on 12hr runs and in -14C wind, lashing rain or driving snow.

I would only change it if we were going to take the family car "up market".

I would have to throw a VW Passat into the mix.
Mine deals with children, 2 dogs, bikes, loads of c*ap that all the foregoing put in it and is simply amazing to drive given its size. Mine is 13 years old and is better to drive than an Audi A4 I have had from the company for a couple of months on a 63 plate.

Strange how people hate Fords. I've had 4, 2 Escort estates, 2 Focus hatchbacks that got treated like estates & the OH's Fiesta that I used to sling around country lanes when the Focus was in for servicing. They've all been good cars, inexpensive to maintain.

I've just bought a C Max, with a Ecoboost engine which is amazingly economical which might just be suitable, it's certainly fun to drive, or maybe the C Max Grand with 7 seats. Both on the Focus chassis

We had a Ford Galaxy once (till a motorway accident put it out of action), great for your needs, although you don't like Fords, then a Fiat Ulysse (or "The Fiat Useless" as I called it, but to be honest, it was really useful, with kids, bikes, etc, and a lot cheaper to run than the Galaxy). Now a Skoda Octavia estate... most reliable car we've ever had... no probs with it in 4 years, apart from the odd bulb going. But you don't like Skodas either...

Now I've identified all the Ford and Skoda drivers and put them on the 'list'……… ..

Do not fear, I am able to step outside of my irrationality. I have secretly already perused Fords and Skodas, just don't tell anyone. I think the c-max is a similar size to the c3, so not much to gain from a swap besides a loan.

I think basically I don't want an mpv and mrs c does. I don't feel very strongly about it though , so if we swop, it'll be more her preference than mine.

Fiat Multipla. Middle seat, but its in the front.
Ah yes,
the Fix.It.Again.Tomorrow -
Super Fugly.

(Sorry but don't like FIAT's) & the has to go down as being one of the most butt ugly motors ever designed.

My vote goes on the Ford S-Max or if loaded & don't mind the astronomical costs, Land Rover Discovery.

My alternative was the Qashqai, cost & dealer location was the tie breaker. Though given that you have 3x teenagers it won't be long before one or more of them are going to be self mobile and no longer requiring Dad's taxi.

Buy the car you want that will accommodate them, with complaints, for a short while. I just like a lot of luggage room.

Yes, we are approaching the next stage of evolution and the eldest want lessons for his 18th in Sept. At some point this may mean a 2nd car. This too is in the back of my mind now.

I realize you've all been waiting with bated breath on my decision............

.......Peugeot 5008.

Did anyone recommend that or did my prediction that I'd ignore everyone win out, I can't recall.

I think we went through all the cars on the list and viewed them or drove them. It's all a bit of a blur actually. One salesman has merged with the other. Anyway, the 5008 hit all my competent mediocrity buttons, right size, right price. I did like the C4 GP but the new one, not the old one and the new one costs too much. All the others were ruled out on arbitrary stuff.

We still haven't got one but it's just a question of picking one with the right mileage and price now.
