What's this thing you call a "bank branch"

I saw an article about one in a very old history book

They are quite rare.

I do have a cheque book. Can't remember when I last used it.

A while back, I saw someone walking into my local bank carrying one of those huge cheques that you see in photos when someone makes a charitable donation or something. I had always assumed they were just photography props and there would be a normal cheque to make the payment.

I don't think they are valid

what's a window cleaner?

Our window cleaner is bank transfer for payment, no cheques for him.

That is funny!
I used to work as a PR for a supermarket that liked to give small donations to local groups.
We had a Big Cheque that could be wiped clean (I used to write it out!) for the pictures, then of course we gave the local causes representatives a real cheque to bank.

So that's how they do it!
She had to go and spoil the notion that people were wandering around with oversized cheques, trying to pay them in to a bank account.

I used to wander around the main street carrying the Big Cheque, en route to a photo shoot.
We didn't have a cover for it, the rain used to smudge the ink, the wind used to bend it sideways around me.
It is an awkward to carry thing
