I've tried to avoid confrontation while on the road, but in my experience it's often the elderly who seem most inclined to try and start it with rude gestures or foul language. Pathetic really, as if I were a nasty person I could do them a lot of harm, so why take the risk?

Totally different here (at least for me). Middle aged males, by far, are the most likely to be actively malicious. (Manchester - Wilmslow). Danger caused by distraction evens up a little, perhaps with a skew to the young on their 'phones.

Indeed, living out in the boonies there is an older population. They've either retired out here, or they had to wait until they were older to be able to afford the move from the cheaper nearby towns.

I agree. There's something very dysfunctional about that generation. Casual racism, casual sexism etc. I am a gardener and one of my regular clients is Mormon. I am very fond of him and his family despite our very different blueprints. I tolerate and respect everyone given the chance. Last week, I needed to get access to the top of a hedge from another landowner's property and went to get permission from the elderly owner. I knocked on the door and asked for access, but all I got in return was a torrent of anti Semitic abuse for '...working for a Jew. Or whatever the F*+# they are. Thieves, the lot of them....'

The world has gone very weird lately.

Really? Is this on your own initiative, or are you actually tasked to do this? I'm not criticising, you understand, just curious.
It is something the doctor has to report eventually although often at the suggestion of nursing staff. You basically need to tell them the patient should tell the DVLA they are incapable of driving. If they refuse to do so then you can suggest they seek a second opinion. If they refuse that and refuse to tell the DVLA then a doctor reports them to DVLA Medical and you tell the patient you've done it.

Obviously the patient has the legal responsibility to report but if you lie to the doctor and continue driving you are in a whole world of trouble if you have an accident as with Glasgow bin lorry man.

Interesting. Thanks.

No problem. My understanding is it used to be less common but now with safeguarding the number one word everyone has to cover themselves and even minor incidents got reported. It is surprisingly common, for instance, for child abuse/child pornography allegations to be made in A&E.

Oh dear.
Last time someone tried a comment like that I simply replied....,'you're wrong....and I don't give a flying fook what you think anyway' and rode off.
Not worth wasting any more breath on people like that.

A pal of mine was forced off his bike by an old chap (estimated 60-70) who told him that he should be riding further left, and emphasised the message by moving his car gradually into the space that my pal was currently occupying, until he was forced to stop.

Although the danger from the 30-49 group more accurately reflects my own experience, I must say.

I had something similar with a company white van

Drew up alongside at lights and told me I was too far out and then as we drove off pulled across in the same way

NO confrontation at the time, but if the apologetic letter I received is true.... I believe there was some confrontation between him and his manager when the company reviewed the head cam footage
