My car has remote central locking. This weekend the key exploded. I kid you not. I pressed the 'lock' button on the key...the metal shaft of the key shot out and the plastic part you hold was shattered. Unbelievably, the key still works, but it's held together with tape now.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Not quite the same, in fact not at all, but I had a loan car once and I pressed the key to lock the car and the glass in the rear window shattered.

But did the brakes work ?
Ah, the Allez, right? I cleaned out the brake calipers and re-oiled them. Fingers-crossed it's sorted now. Thanks.

Maz,it might be worth taking the key back to your local Toyota dealer - get a replacement for free and let them know about the fault on the keys.
