Exploding car keys...

My car has remote central locking. This weekend the key exploded. I kid you not. I pressed the 'lock' button on the key...the metal shaft of the key shot out and the plastic part you hold was shattered. Unbelievably, the key still works, but it's held together with tape now.

Has this happened to anyone else?

It's a Toyota. I reckon the battery shorted something out inside the key and that caused the explosion.

Ah, the Allez, right? I cleaned out the brake calipers and re-oiled them. Fingers-crossed it's sorted now. Thanks.

Sorry my cr@p joke, its probably old hat now the sticking brakes, etc on Toyota's; I'll get my coat.

Maz,it might be worth taking the key back to your local Toyota dealer - get a replacement for free and let them know about the fault on the keys.
