So, this route, how flat/hilly is it? Can it be done on a fixie?

Its pretty flat.

You'll know about the few hills around Brentwood. then there is a nasty one in Maldon, which we fortunately go down not up and then one or two of no great consequence running into Harwich. Once you hit Suffolk, it is pretty much the flat earth society!

Back tracking our route a little down towards Dunwich and then through Leiston, Snape, Rendelsham and into Woodbridge that way. I cycled back to Ipswich after the DD this year by that route and it is a lovely ride.

Yep I would agree with that, a very pleasant ride. The single carriageway A12 is best to be avoided.
