Unlike actually doing that
I got bored of spinning out the standard 100" top gear on my bent trike out at 30 mph.
It was so easy to do down any reasonable 4-5% hill.
So I upped it to 178" when I got my new trike and now I spinout at +50 mph.
That not so easy as it takes a very good 16-20% hill.

I decided to stop pedalling once I span out of top gear , cheaper ! =D

But it's "FUN" to slowly pedal down a 8-10% hill at 40 mph .......

The other thing I've noticed is that I used a lot more energy spinning out a 100" gear at 100 rpm to hit 30 mph vs spinning a 178" gear at only 75 rpm when doing 40 mph.
I don't add much if any to the speed because I'm not using that much energy to hit that speed.
But it does keep the legs warm and shifts any lactic acid out of the muscles before the next uphill stretch.

I've had the ultra wide range, 9.6"-178", on my bent trike for a few years now and I don't ever want to go back to a more standard 15"-100" range.
