This is just hearsay, but a well-known British rider is said to have suffered a degree of osteoporosis from long-term use of bicarb.
How do they know it was due to bicarb?

Long distance cycling is well-known as a risk factor for osteoporosis, maybe 2/3 of pro cyclists suffering to some extent!

It sounds to me like one of those meme things "Performance physiologists don't want you to know this one weird trick".

Not saying there isn't something to it, but that's what it reminds me of.

As I said, the link with bicarb is just hearsay (hearsay from testers, who are known to have a tenuous grip on logical thinking).

I would have thought that if the only aerobic exercise you did was on the bike there would be a risk of osteoporosis. Weight bearing exercise is encouraged to prevent it, though difficult to prove in a trial perhaps

I'm currently testing the intestinal effects of ingesting two teaspoons of Bicarb in a Cola drink.

So far so good, but I'll let you know what happens in a very detailed report later.
