I've still got one QOM that I got last year on a short section through the woods, managed 15.9mph, but I can't go much faster due to potential dog walkers and suicidal squirrels.

I don't see any of that as cheating. Drafting a group ride with the specific aim of sprinting off the front near the end of the segment. Now that's cheating

Nothing on a bike is cheating, there's no rules, in a car or on a motorbike could be considered bad form.
