Halloween

A few years ago - so basically about 2 years after I retired from teaching at the local primary school - the bell rang on Halloween

2 kids standing there - young teenagers wearing costumes with masks

one of then said

"You're Mr ebiker"

I looked at him and said "and you're......... a skeleton"

he took it off to reveal a member of one of the local 'families' - one with enough kids to have 1 in every class in the primary - 2 in one class and not twins - plus several that had moved onto secondary plus a know incoming stream

I apologised that we didn't have any sweets as we were not expecting any kids!!

he was great and said "Thanks Mr ebiker - nice to see you again"

wonder what happened to him - I used to hear him yelling my name around Widnes - not seen him for a couple of years

Nothing to report from here, apart from a knock on the door at 9.05.

Had another set of trick or treaters round, only a day early this time. Then another knock about 7.30 so put my mask on this time, daughter grabbed the sweets, opened the door with a big scary flourish and...


...it was two young women from down the road who'd just been in a car crash outside our house and wanted to check if our car was ok as they thought it might have been hit as well.

I have bought a pack of small chocolate bars to give to the kids who call at our house, with the added bonus of finishing off any that are left over

Oh, I didn't know they did small bars of Ex-Lax these days.

Unfortunately we won't be having any guisers tonight as both Mrs Celine and I have covid.

Normally guisers are well rewarded and get an extra bonus if they have a proper tumshie lantern.

'Trick or treaters' are reminded that this is not the USA. They catch on quick, or have already dealt with other grumpy old gits.
