Love the line "to protect you from bear cans and other items thrown by motorists".

What is a bear can please ?
It's a can to keep food in so bears can't smell it and be attracted into your camp. I'm not making it up.
What danger a Koala represents to a motorist as to why they would need carry one to keep their eucalyptus leaves in one I've no idea.
Perhaps they are just trying to help out the cyclists by giving them something to keep their Wiggle Haribos in to stop attacks by drop bears.

It would appear that the council are now fully backing the helmet, as presented.

"After spending all day with Toby, we believe we have the final version of the helmet, we have removed some of the 15kgs down to a mere 11.4kgs and still managed to put in extra features.

Firstly, it is with some regret that the back no longer has room for a full licence plate, so we have opted for a full body armor to be worn over your cloths.

The helmet is full of features, mouth and nose guard to stop bugs, eyes that can shoot lasers, bluetooth handsfree, and full HD TV reception, GPS with 'By Your Command' voice control.
We have kept the turn signals in, these are complemented by a continuous "Whoo Whoo" noise. The top of the helmet has been reinforced to ensure if you hit a pedestrian you will be ok (because we all know pedestrians should be registered to use our footpaths).

The best features still include magpie missiles, surround impact noise protection, #HUD (Heads Up Display) with full HD movies. Etag for when you ride on Freeways (because as a registered vehicle we will be allowed on freeways now). And in the event of an armed robbery, it does have a #Selfdestruct optional at extra cost.

So, ladies and gentlemen - The new #SmartHat"

Seriously, even with council backing I can't see it amounting to much. At the moment it's only in a concept stage, it still needs developing into a prototype, then testing. And after that all the manufacturing and supply of it to the cyclist.
At some point it also would have to be made a legal thing to be made to wear it.. Theres a lot of expense along the way there, and it's only a local council at the moment backing it. The market even if it is foisted on the cycling locals can't be that big. It isn't Giro selling a simple foam hat to the world, there is technology involved, it would be expensive and the guy trying to flog it would be reducing his potential market even further as more people refused to wear it and left their bikes hanging up instead. That would probably make the local motorists happy though.
