Helmets are compulsory in Australia and they're trying to bring in registration for cyclists as well. This has now been passed to state level.Seriously, even with council backing I can't see it amounting to much. At the moment it's only in a concept stage, it still needs developing into a prototype, then testing. And after that all the manufacturing and supply of it to the cyclist.
At some point it also would have to be made a legal thing to be made to wear it.. Theres a lot of expense along the way there, and it's only a local council at the moment backing it. The market even if it is foisted on the cycling locals can't be that big. It isn't Giro selling a simple foam hat to the world, there is technology involved, it would be expensive and the guy trying to flog it would be reducing his potential market even further as more people refused to wear it and left their bikes hanging up instead. That would probably make the local motorists happy though.
I knew about the helmets, though not about the registration. Still, unless there is legislation to force cyclists to buy that hat thing I can't see it working commercially. And the idiot with the idea deserves to lose his shirt on it.Helmets are compulsory in Australia and they're trying to bring in registration for cyclists as well. I would love them to bring in compulsory cycle registration here - just for a little while.
It would cost millions to set up and millions more to administer, the same again to enforce, be a complete waste of time, be withdrawn within 6 months, and then never again would we have to listen to people banging on about it anymore!
I think I heard something about that. Tried it in the 1950's or something didn't they?A bit like Switzerland...
Drivers of low emission vehicles do not pay any 'road tax' either FFSI think I heard something about that. Tried it in the 1950's or something didn't they?
In fact I'd go further to say I wouldn't object to a nominal tax on using a bike on the road. £1 a year would more than cover the damage pushbikes do to roads, but it would stop the "he doesn't even pay road tax" BS too.

That late? In fairness, with the landscape that's to be found in Switzerland I doubt it made them much money. Sound of Music scenery is lovely to look at. It's hard to ride up though... If it wasn't Julie Andrews would have been frolicking round that field on a Raleigh Shopper I'm sure...It was discontinued in 2012

You're right. Close enough though. Mountains, fields, Hitler. OK, well 2 out of 3 ain't bad...Austria. Stop getting The Sound of Music wrong.
They're are serious about this helmet design. Its now been passed to state level for approval. If you think paying £1 would change anything you don't understand the motivations behind the calls for this, regsitration and even this stupid helmet which if isn't a joke is breathtakingly stupid.
It's all about making cycling as unattractive as possible.
