My first house was £42,000. Sold it for over double that just 4 years later.

Narborough Leicestershire (not Narborough Norfolk)?
Our first place was in Narborough (Leics), bought at the end of 1987 for £32800. It was a terrace with 2 main bedrooms + a micro-bedroom carved out of the old bathroom. Prices were rocketing at that time and the neighbours thought we'd paid too much.
Leicestershire, a terraced house on Huncote Rd.

Best house price OMG story I know of is a couple (primary teachers) with 2 children who sold an end terrace house in Bayswater and bought a house in our village (North Lincs, very cheap at the time) - a four-bed farmhouse with outbuildings and smallholding. AND had enough left over for a new car each. AND had enough left over from that to stick in the bank, take the interest, and take part-time jobs in a local school. He did the mornings, she did the afternoons.
Obviously made possible by a huge discrepancy in house prices and a decent basic interest rate, but it seemed to me a very smart move indeed.

1986 to 1988 was the time house prices went through the roof.I got divorced in Nov 87.The house went for £39,950.Fourteen months later, the old lady who bought it,died. Her family flogged it for £88,000.We were still fighting each other.By the time the shoot and nastiness finished.£39,950,became,£32,500 legal fees cost over £6,500.We were both farked, and finished up in council accom, both of us paying more in council rent than we were paying for our mortgage. What a couple of tw=ts we both were.

My fiends parents bought their brand new 3 bedroom mid terrace micro-Span house in Blackheath for £3,000 in 1960 (they are worth close to one million today).
And the following week were offered the thatched Reed Cutters cottage on Hickling Broad in Norfolk, for £25 !
Unfortunately, having just had their mortgage accepted for the Blackheath house they could not afford the £25 (which was more than their combined weekly wage), so had to decline.
