Increase in seizures of illegal ebikes

Just read in the local paper that the Police have had a "Day of Action" around here

Sounds like they did a lot of "advising the public" stuff around several places that I often ride around

and several bikes were seized
well - sounds like it was 9 - which is not many in my view for a whole day
some were straight on motorbikes and some illegally adapted bikes and one an escooter

personally I reckon they were aiming at low hanging fruit by going to local parks and beauty spots during the day
the dodgy ones are not in these places at these time

still - at least they are doing something!!

Legislation has not kept up with reality. There are plenty of people I see on a daily basis essentially riding mopeds with no number plate or helmet. No to mention all the fires that are often caused by bad chargers.

It isn't the legislation that is at fault here, but rather enforcement of it.

Those things are illegal to use on the road, and no change to legislation can make them more so.

You're correct. I was lazily thinking of e-scooters that have been around for ages but are currently only legal if hired. i believe they self combust too which is why they're banned on transport.

I still want to know why we see so few around here
with several counsel estates around you would expect more

we do see some - but compared with some other areas they seemed common
then just went away mostly

Saw a fat guy today on an electric scooter. Not so unusual.

The problem with scooters is that you have to stand up and not everyone is into such extreme exercise.

So this guy was squatting down on a little seat on the scooter. And such was his bulk that the little motor was struggling to propel him at more than walking pace. Very comical.

It's not just council estates that the riders, and their bikes come from.

The last Bank Holiday saw one rider killed whilst not far from me, on a main road which was closed for the rest of the day.

The delivery riders in the town centre seem to have fallen out of favour with those doing roadworks in the town centre. Reason, they're supposed to have hit at least one of those on the sites, whilst riding inside the fenced and coned area. So they lost a fair bit of business.

In the city centre it'd take you longer to load the app, pay and wait for someone to deliver then walk into one of the many takeaway shops.

I'd imagine in the city centre delivery is surving on those too lazy to even leave their front door to get something.

They used to deliver to those on the roadworks(you'll note I didn't say working), saving them walking at least 300 yards, there and back.
Now those left, with a bike stay clear of them. Seven seized last week in the town centre, now the two left seem to have found some 29'ers.

Note noted lol. I would expect them to avoid them then if wronged.
