Legislation has not kept up with reality. There are plenty of people I see on a daily basis essentially riding mopeds with no number plate or helmet. No to mention all the fires that are often caused by bad chargers.

Legislation seems OK, but enforcement is partial.

It isn't the legislation that is at fault here, but rather enforcement of it.

Those things are illegal to use on the road, and no change to legislation can make them more so.

You're correct. I was lazily thinking of e-scooters that have been around for ages but are currently only legal if hired. i believe they self combust too which is why they're banned on transport.

And meanwhile in Derby the Police are getting down to business

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Saw a fat guy today on an electric scooter. Not so unusual.

The problem with scooters is that you have to stand up and not everyone is into such extreme exercise.

So this guy was squatting down on a little seat on the scooter. And such was his bulk that the little motor was struggling to propel him at more than walking pace. Very comical.

I still want to know why we see so few around here
with several counsel estates around you would expect more

we do see some - but compared with some other areas they seemed common
then just went away mostly
It's not just council estates that the riders, and their bikes come from.

The last Bank Holiday saw one rider killed whilst not far from me, on a main road which was closed for the rest of the day.

The delivery riders in the town centre seem to have fallen out of favour with those doing roadworks in the town centre. Reason, they're supposed to have hit at least one of those on the sites, whilst riding inside the fenced and coned area. So they lost a fair bit of business.

In the city centre it'd take you longer to load the app, pay and wait for someone to deliver then walk into one of the many takeaway shops.

I'd imagine in the city centre delivery is surving on those too lazy to even leave their front door to get something.
They used to deliver to those on the roadworks(you'll note I didn't say working), saving them walking at least 300 yards, there and back.
Now those left, with a bike stay clear of them. Seven seized last week in the town centre, now the two left seem to have found some 29'ers.

On two occasions when we walked into Derby on a Tuesday we have come across a Police ambush awaiting an e scooter/bike rider. On one occasion they had several confiscated e scooters in a heap awaiting collection. We don’t see many now just the odd one but there are loads of ‘Just Eat’ orange e bikes about supposed they are legal?

They work on throttle only, many sold are sold that way, making them illegal if going over walk assist speed.

Oh yes

My wife has come to realise that my problem with hating to wait means that she gets her pizza quicker and fresher

her son and his wife - and their whole family - think I am weird for always wanting to go out and get it

OK - to be fair I can be weird - but on this I think I make sense

apart from anything else if you go to the shop then you can often see the hygiene rating on the door

I have seen some roun dhere that have been in the paper for scary hygiene rating and I still see cars loading up delivery bags of stuff

I reckon they just get orders from Just Eat (etc) and don;t consider where it comes from
