I look on it as therapy... no-one will remember what I post, no-one will ever read any of it twice, and on occasion I can ramble on about my own personal political utopia without anyone caring much other than to correct me as and when appropriate! .... often it's faster than news agencies and by and large well balanced.

Agree with that... if only what went on there stayed there and animosities held because of different viewpoints there didn't spill over to other topics where cyclists are either having their light-hearted chat in the cafe or wanting to discuss cycling topics but getting sidelined by crossfire.

I think the simple answer to one part of the OP's question is 'history'. A lot of people came over here initially from the Cycling+ forums when they were absorbed into BikeRadar. C+ had always had a rough'n'tumble but largely friendly politics sub-forum, and so it came with the people. Shaun tried various versions until we arrived at the current one. I find it odd that some people feel threatened by it, and even more bizarre that so many people who claim not to be interested in it, bother to complain about it so vociferously elsewhere... personally I enjoy the light mental exercise. And yes, it has a certain slightly rowdy sub-culture, but then if you go with it, it's fun and certainly nowhere near the levels of unpleasantness of many dedicated Internet current affairs sites...

BTW, cycle commuter, triathlete, former club road rider and xc-racer, 7 bikes etc. etc... in case anyone was going to make any personal assumptions.

Personally I find S,C & P interesting - I learn quite a bit by investigating further on the topics posted.

Yes, does get a bit iffy at times but crikey we are all grown ups aren't we?

Can't agree on everything can we - esp' all that Socialist Leftie Bash the Rich nonsense.

If you don't like it then you don't need to go there.
