It's a real shame you need to actually explain that.....

Slow news day, given that the video is alledgedly several years old, no doubt they could if they wanted re-write history, it worked for Douglas Baders dog.

I've watched the video and yes he does mumble the dreaded N word, as he was saying it he realised he shouldn't be?

My money would be the first take was so mumbled it had no comic or "risqué" effect. The second take was too explicit, i.e. sounded exactly like he'd said it. Third take the safe fall back of using teacher. He'd of known that the second take would be seen by others so he specifically made a production note saying he hadn't actually said it, but it sounded like he had.

I am wondering when it will sink in with some people.

Top Gear is scripted.

Top Gear is rehearsed.

Someone wrote that segment, along with the Mexican one, the 'Slope' one, the German one (Hitler turn signals and a sat nav that only goes to Poland), the Indian one, the Gay one (ginger beer (queer), the 'mental' one (offering Hammond a tissue in case he drooled)....see a pattern?

They all knew that using the eeny meeny miny mo rhyme would be offensive, so how did it get past the scriptwriting stage? Past rehearsal? And then filmed...3 times.....?

And then it got past being dumped altogether to reappear two years later because scandal rags give out cash for dirt.

let's suppose you have a history of making offensive and racist remarks. Why in the wild world of Funk and Wagnall would you stand in front of a camera and recite a racist poem, and if you used that word at your office would the tribunal accept your excuse that "it was two years ago, and anyway I mumbled!"

Now it is the entire rhyme that is offensive?

@ComedyPilot I don't watch Top Gear, I think it's rubbish TV, so I would have no idea if it was scripted or rehearsed.
If it was done as a joke then it is very bad taste but the buffoon and the script writers will get away with it.

Ok let's have them....and which globally-screened, franchised (paid for by us) broadcast to millions show would they be on....?
Probably the same one that did not show the deleted clip, it was a general comment about racism . Something I have protested against since the late 70s (rock against racism) along with Freedom of Speech,. the Poll Tax, the 1st Gulf War, The 2nd Gulf War , Apartheid, American Nuclear Bases, Anti Fascist Marches............. The clip shown by the "Mirror" was never broadcast and should have been left on the floor of the editing suite where it belonged.

With this one, once he'd listened back he thought it was too explicit to get away with.[/QUOTE]
Clever of him to think of it two years ago then, before any of that other business came up. The piece being referred to, n case you were not aware, was shot two years ago. The mumbled take which was never used, was not used because he asked them not to use it - two years ago, at the time!

I erm er  might have once attended a filming of Top Gear and found it rather amusing that they organised the audience so that if you were a pretty young lady you were asked to stand in camera shot around the presenters. Being a lanky bloke I was afforded no such favour.
