Fish Fingers were originally made from wood, however they discovered that Guitars could be made from it and were far more profitable,

However the name 'Birds Eye' had been registered and it would cost too much to re-brand the company so the name lives on.

Scotch Eggs were originally made by pickling eggs in Scotch Whisky. They were incredibly popular during the american prohibition era, as they were not subject to the alcohol ban.

Now that's interesting but different from the story told to me by an actual Scotchman. Apparently they were invented in the kitchens of the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh in the 1920s when eggs that had spoiled or were unfit for human consumption were discarded or "Scotched". One of the scullery maids hit on the idea of hardboiling them, wrapping them in a square sausage squeezed to shape and rolling them on the sawdust floor. Thus a delicacy was born.

Fish fingers were first invented when the lead singer of Marillion had an accident with a chainsaw while holding a bowl of breadcrumbs.

However, primarily due to a shortage of source materials, a decision was made to replace the main ingredient with slices of fish, which were much tastier and also avoided the need for costly rebranding.

Halfords (the cycle shop) was started in 1862 by a Mr Rushbrook. He was an ironmonger and a blacksmith. The main tool he used was a lump hammer as virtually everything he made could be knocked into shape with a big hammer and brute force.
As his business grew and he took on more people he trained them all how to use a big hammer to fix anything and everything.
When they started selling bikes it was decided that, as using big hammers had always been sucessfu then all new members of staff would be taught to use them when building or repairing bikes. That practice continues to this day.

Time to repeat the 3 golden rules of engineering:

1 Always use the right tool for the job
2 The right tool for any job is a hammer
3 Any tool can be used as a hammer
