Horse trainer Brendan O’Shaunessy, a welshman, had phenomenal success in the 70s, with his horse “Aluminium Boy” winning all the major flat and jump races. He attributed this success to using lightweight aluminium horseshoes, while all of his competitors were still using heavy iron.
However, it was later discovered that O’Shaunessy was also burying large magnets in racecourses, causing all of the iron-shod horses to stick to the ground and allowing his horses to win.
O’Shaunessy was banned by the Jockey Club, but he and Aluminium Boy became celebrities and travelled the world. Their career came to an abrupt end when O’Shaunessy and his horse visited Japan. Aluminium Boy inadvertently stepped onto the maglev train tracks at Tokyo airport, and his aluminium shoes caused him to be propelled at 280 km/h into the centre of Tokyo, where he collided with a Bullet train coming the other way.
