The original Austin Allegro was to be powered by Steve Austin, the Bionic Man. Alas, the models were so badly built that the first time the car pulled away Steve Austin tore out of the engine bay and went running up the road.

Boris johnsons unruly - and suspiciously thick for a man in his 50's - mop of hair arose as a result of a dare in 1974, when the neighbours kid dared him to stick his tongue in the wall socket.

Wall sockets were invented before walls. Before that, they just dangled there, unsupported.

Walls were originally made from Ice Cream, hence the modern brand of Walls Ice Cream. This was a perfectly satisfactory state of affairs, although during a heatwave everyone was very sticky and homeless.

Back in the middle ages there was a cotton shortage, that lasted a decade. This meant that holes in garments couldn’t be darned and the number multiplied. During the winter, peasants discovered that the shirts with the most holes were actually warmer. Hence the string vest came about. Rab C. Nesbit being a canny Scotsman submitted a patent for it.
