I did it in mid august (2008) to try to make the most of the British summer. In the end it was a mix of cold, wind, sun and rain. Lots and lots of rain! I guess doing it outside of school holidays would make life a little simpler. Also try not to arrive in Cornwall on a bank holiday!
Me too. And it pee'd down for 10 days out of 14. It's a complete lottery. Just go prepared. The only saving grace was that we had a tailwind for most of the way.
My funniest moment was riding through a giant lake of a puddle somewhere south of perth, in torrential rain, while trying to avoid all of the flotsam and jetsam (branches, sods of earth, leaves etc) which was floating past, which had been washed off the fields.
Well it was either that or despite being absolutely soaked to the skin in Malmesbury, after 6 hours in torrential rain, and having to buy a bottle of water because we'd run out. The irony wasn't lost on me.
