How do you judge people?

Are you impressed with their 4 bedroom detatched new-build, climbing the ranks job, and matching BMW's in the drive, or more impressed with someone who's 'lived a little' but not got a lot?

I can't imagine that too many people are going to fess up to the first option.

You could rephrase the question as

a) are you a shallow , easily led, impressionable twit

or

a thoughtful, perspicacious, mature person

I'd been impressed if the first sort of people were hard working but not snobs. The second sort of people just tend to be nicer sort of people.

The main thing I base alot of my opinions of people on is trust and trustworthyness. I never get close to people unless I can fully trust them with anything - though whether this trust is reliable or not is a different story, past events have proved that downside of this.

Many people may see people with high range material goods as snobby etc, but I do not judge on this basis either. Some people have worked damn hard for what they have, some have done squat.

Most of those people are high and mighty. Some people aren't and those are nice, but those with the fancy BMW or Audi with the perfect life ... the perfect house etc are annoying little gits at best and they can't wait to rub your face in it.

Or they could be war veterans who lost both their parents at an early age and had numerous family troubles and have struggled all their lives, and now have taken a well deserved turn for the better.

You can't judge people in a negative way because they have it all, just like you can't judge people in a negative way because they have very little.

Which I believe would fit in to the catorgary that is 'not high and mighty' hence likley to be more goood natured humans and able to appreciate what they have around them.

But those with it all, and know they have it all and annoyingly love themselves I can't stand. In my experiance those who have lived life are better humans.

Kovu, I used to think like that. But after a few years, you realise that in fact many of the people with the nice BMWs or Audis are really nice people, and many people who have nothing and live in a council flat are total sociopaths. And vice versa.

I'm not saying all people with the audis and bmws are all idiots and snobs. There not. I'm just there are a lot.

Somebody who has been born into a rich family, and had the high life all their lives can still turn out to be a very nice, hard working person... Experiences and "living life" can make people bitter aswell... I suppose the real question is what defines a nice/better person?

The reason I asked this is because I was at a party recently where people were comparing bank balances, plasma tv's, BMW's in the drive etc, but when I asked what they had experienced, and achieved 'outside' their money-zone / work place, NOT ONE of them had a noteable achievement, charitable contribution or fund-raising event behind them. They all looked back and saw 10-15 years of work/pub/Tenerife/out of town shopping centre therapy.

Not one of them had done anything adventurous, and they all seemed quite shallow.
