You can make up a lot of the distance lost in rolling resistance if you don't keep on having to spend 15 minutes frigging around by the side of the road repairing a puncture.

I wouldn't use my Gatorskins for a race or club ride but for utility cycling or endurance events they are spot on. Because p*******s never happen at a convenient time or place. Expensive but they last a long time.

I've tried all sorts of tyres and as far as I'm concerned they all puncture. Now I use mostly continental 4 seasons, they're not puncture proof, and I doubt that any tyre is, but they're nice to ride on and very easy to get on and off beside the road when it does happen. I've put tubeless tyres on my bad weather bikes and these seem have been successful in avoiding stops beside the road due to punctures.
