after the success of our first long ride we are hooked and are going to be doing a few long weekend later in the year and next year so im looking at some panniers for the rear of my bike.
the ones i have looked at that are disc brake compatible dont seem to have any holes or brackets to hold them on the bottom by the wheel spindel, they seem to only have "feet" do these just rest on the rear of the frame or am i missing something?

The feet have bolts that pass through them into threaded braze-ons on the frame.

The fitting guide for the Topeak one is http://www.topeak.com/mediafiles/assets/487/file/1

For a cheap well made rack choose Madison Summit £26.99. They are well made and strong. Have a 5 year warranty. They fit disc braked MTBs as well. Read the review/comments on this as people have been very helpful with actual pics fitted to their bikes.

Tubus are supposed to be the best rack well certainly for the front panniers but they are pricey ££££.

Don't what ever you do buy Blackburn front or rear racks as they are pants as the welding is poor and breaks. Has happened to two different Blackburn EX 2 racks I have. AVOID. The front low loaders are hopeless as well.

For panniers if you want the best and not to have to buy again as the ones you bought first time leak or broke then buy the Vaude Aqua series as these are the best panniers available. The hooks can be locked and they are 100% waterproof. Expensive but the best IMHO, better than Ortlieb Roller Classics.

A Blackburn "Expedition" rear rack came with a child seat that I bought 6-7 years ago for my son (then 3 years old). I used it with that seat till my son outgrew it, then by itself for a while (incl. for my first tour a year ago). The rack served well and did not break. But, Tubus Cargo (?) which I got this year is much nicer, that's for sure.
