My new shoes were £55, I'd had the old ones over 10 years, I think the old ones were about £45.
£55 for a pair of shoes would be acceptable provided I knew I would be able to use them, as I don't know, it is an expensive gamble.

SPD shoes with recessed cleats, They came without the cover that goes in the cleat recess, in the past I've used SPD shoes with clips and straps using a pair of shoes with the covers in place.

Speaking personally, work boots start around there for a good pair, but I wear them about 40 days a week for 48 weeks a year, plus commuting back and forth,

That is a long week.
