Hello.

I am building (another) road bike from my spare part "store".
My friend has told me I shall need one of the above.
What is it used for ?

Thank you for any replies.

You might also need a bendy spanner. Just teasing. Perhaps you're friend implied you need to convert a derailleur to a chain tensioner, assuming you are converting a bike with vertical dropouts to a single speed...? Otherwise, we're going to need more details of what you hope to achieve and which frame and components you had in mind.

Another type of Rear Dérailleur Converter, which looks interesting, extends a short cage to a longer cage, so a cassette with a 38+ tooth cog can be used.
Looks very handy.

Thank you for the sensible reply and photo's, that is what my pal suggested as I am going to use a bigger rear mech.

Regards.

You only need one if you are using a smaller rear mech on a big cassette. If you have a large rear mech already you won't need one you just need a standard one not the long reach version. Post No.4
