Correct. Slow a little and see if it's ckear. That massively reduced the chance of smashing into someone who shouldn't be there. Going st full speed without being prepared to stop is poor driving.

Not as poor as merrily sailing through a stop signal though expecting other people to moderate their legal manoeuvres to accommodate your illegal one.

Oh, a cyclist going through a red light is an idiot. A driver going across a junction without slowing slightly and being prepared to stop whilst checking it is clear is a dangerous idiot.

Oh, a driver does have a legal obligation to only proceed through a junction if the way is clear.

Okay ..trust me I ride and drive defensively but you if you are asking people to predict the unpredictable simply because some loon happens to be on two wheels then you are stretching things somewhat .
Nope. At a junction, slow a little and be prepared to stop.

There's a right turn off a main road near us that has a pedestrian crossing at the far side of it. As I approached to make the turn, the lights kindly turned red, white h meant I should be oka to make the right turn. Luckily I tend to have a very good look before going through, just in case. A bloke pedalled straight through, seemingly oblivious to me, the stopped vehicles and the people on the crossing.

I stopped waiting for him to go through, only for him to offer a mucky look and a mouthful of abuse, which I declined.

It's a good job I looked out, because he wasn't all that visible, as he blended in to the mountain of flowers people had left to offer their respects to a young mum and her child, sadly killed by a lorry on that crossing just days before.

And if the light instructs you to stop then slow to a stop and await your turn to go.
Agree. And if your light is green you should be prepared to stop so you don't kill anybody.

He did..

whats the issue again ?...It may escape you but cyclists also have a duty of care not to leap in front of moving or non moving traffic..
....only because. My question was if there wasn't oncoming traffic does he go through at full speed without checking it's clear? I think it's a fair question.

Absolutely & for emergency vehicles, breakdowns, unsteady pedestrians, any other unexpected eventuality as well as chancers on foot, two or more wheels who wilfully decide to increase the hazards for everyone.

Everyone following legal signals & playing fair with everyone else though does reduce the likelihood of a fatal consequence as far as possible.

I don't dispute that. Cyclists should always stop at red. Drivers should slow and be more aware. I was just asking the op if he/she did as it read that they ONLY slowed due to other traffic.

As most drivers I was driving at the speed that was determined by the traffic flow , accelerating through a juntion is permissable ,if it is safe and clear to cross and your exit is clear taking into account the events at the junction I was confronted with ,I took it slow -er adjusting to the situaion , and not expecting some DH who is not in my field of vision to come flying at me from the left ,
