I wondered if the Russian woman's aim is to get her feet under the UK table.

Still deceitful, but when realisation dawns, not quite as painful for the victim as being fleeced as well.

Sorry to agree with others that it is a scam the gentleman concerned must be very gullible if he cannot see this.

I do however have some magic beans for sale that he may be interested in.

Bizarrely I am at a comfortable age (56) where I have been married over 30 years, and I am seen as "safe" by young ladies

Yesterday was an example.

Sat in a Christmas Market bar with the almost blind MiL when two young ladies asked if they could sit on our table

I explained to MiL who they were and what was happening, we then spent 30 mins chatting away about their shopping, how my MiL remembered Christmas during the war and other things

At the end one of them leant over, kissed me on the cheek and told me I was "lovely" because of the way I looked after and involved the MiL

I have no illusions about this, but it is fantastic being able to chat without the possibility of any ulterior motive undermining things

I know others are not as Lucky in their family and relationships

A similar thing happened to me

A bonny young lass got on a bus on which all the seats were occupied by at least one person, meaning she had to pick someone to sit next to - or stand.

She chose to sit next to me.

Like @Cunobelin, I'm entirely realistic.

She chose me because I presented no sexual threat or interest.

I can accept the latter, but I might have felt a bit better if I had enough remaining male hormones to at least make her feel a bit wary.

Ask your pal if he wrote her a letter of invitation for the UK visa
You don't need an invitation to visit the UK. That's only needed going the other way.

Er.... read the link, it seems to say Russians need visas. Many nationalities need visas to come here.

AFAIK, Russia is one of the few countries that requires a letter of invitation before you can get a visa. It's certainly not required by the UK.

(and it's just a bureaucratic nonsense, I got one for $US20 from YHA once, and for from a Russian visa specialist firm another time. I assume that Russia still asks for them because they are getting kickbacks from the companies that charge people to provide them. A Russian born friend of mine who prefers to travel on an Australian passport had to get her parents to spend a whole day in a St Petersburg police station, preparing her invitation.)

I used to ferry Filipino seamen from ship to shore and back giving plenty of time for a chat with the passengers. On one trip we were discussing Filipino brides and one of the sailors offered to put me in touch with a suitable young lady. I expressed some concern saying that I'd be dead of exhaustion in a very short time after getting involved with one of his young ladies. Quick as a flash he countered with "I get you 60 year old, untouched" I still declined his offer but had to admire his salesmanship:smile:

An entirely dissimilar thing happened to me once.

I was sitting in the top deck of a double decker bus that was otherwise empty.

A woman came up the stairs and sat next to me.

After ten minutes I was almost crying with fear.
I have a 71 year old widower friend who has been looking on dating sites for a new partner. He has been in touch for a while with a beautiful 35 year old divorcee (her husband used to beat her apparently) from Ekaterinburg in the Urals area of Russia. She has sent him photos of herself in a bikini and is a university lecturer, and they can only communicate via email as she says she doesn't have access to Skype or Face time. She says she is in love with him and tells him all the things she would like to do to him .

She is now arranging to fly to Heathrow on December 30th so they can meet up.

We've all tried to tell him to be careful but he says she hasn't mentioned money and he is besotted.

Is this a scam? Should we just leave him get on with it as we may all be wrong and just jealous, as he thinks we are.
Contact the airport / security? - I'm sure they don't like this type of scam on their 'manor' ...
