Minds me of the story my mum told me of when my dad, in France in the RE during late 1944, sent a Camembert home. With the unavoidably 'dodgy' postal services at the time, it was well mature by the time it was delivered - ! :rofl:

Had it developed language skills? :whistle:
 
We went to Bruges via Eurostar. There is an excellent cheese shop there.
We bought a decent sized Brie that was ready for eating 2 days before we came home. Packed in suitcase and train to London then Liverpool got us home near midnight.
Unpacked the following day. We knew which case had the Brie.
Gorgeous stuff.

Getting old but not past it
In the 70s, there was a market in my home town, that specialised in selling "well matured" camembers. I used to go there every time I came home and brought them back here. I was living in West Sussex then. I wasn't allowed to keep them in the kitchen though so they had to go in the garage until consumed.
Sadly, because of H&S, the market has long gone now.

Another good cheese from the Dauphine is St Felicien.

It's lush and creamy when it's really ripe. Best served with a spoon, as it gets a bit runny.

I used Pecorino Romano insteand of Regianno in tonights Carbonara, much nicer salty/earthy flavour.
As for eating chunks of cheese, a strong hard Cheddar is king for me.

I just eat the rind minus the wrapping bit off a piece of Jarlsberg. A bit crunchy but perefctly edible and not unpleasant. New ventures with eating cheese. You're never too old to learn new stuff.

Having wanted to try something different, I got some taleggio from Asda a while ago. With a use by date of today, just had a few slices on a couple of rather lovely fresh crusty rolls from the Coop. Nice and different to my usual cambazola or Brie.
