Real life ride today! As great as it was to get out 2 punctures ain't a good incentive to get out more!

Need to get some good tyres for outside. Any recommendations?
The Maxxis refuse had a good rep for puncture resistance when I was looking. May be a little hard to get hold of. They were about £15-20 each when I got mine. They are available in different colours as well.

Have you thought about tubeless? The sealant should sort out most punctures!

I might buy a turbo specific tyre Bill. If anything just to see if I notice a tangible difference. Is yours 23 or 25mm?

Tom, at the moment I am using a 25mm road tyre. A Continental Ultra Sport. I think I prefer the 23mm one but the 25 is ok so may as well wear it out a bit. I have tried a turbo specific tyre a tacx 23mm blue one but found it to be power sapping but very good on steep climbs if you want to get out of the saddle without having to worry about wheel spin as it just seems to grip the roller. Good for mountain goat leagues but not good for chaingang ones.

Rick cheers mate. Sorry to be a pain.

Insomnia I totally agree. I think we all get loads more motivation when we're being pushed.

Bert I'd recommend 'continental gatorskins'. I commute on them all year round with very few punctured. Not the cheapest option, and more protection over performance. But I think universally considered very durable and good in all weather.

Also as Geoff said. Tubeless is an interesting option.

Another good tyre is the Bontrager

Seems to feel really good on the road but also very puncture resistant.
Continental ultra sport on the other hand is not at all puncture resistant IMO.

Cheers bill. Interesting stuff. Sounds like I'm probably best sticking with road tyres.

Interesting note about turbo specific tyre, that's what I use as I melted a ordinary road bike tyre.

LIVING THE DREAM
I'd be happy to help out in the drafting this Saturday and try to speed things up bit at midfield or upper midfield pace. I did my stint at the front yesterday and that was enough for me.

I worked on my car all day yesterday and my legs were already a little stiff from crouching all day but that was nothing to today, I am having real trouble getting out and into chairs and stairs need to be taken very carefully. I hope they are better for tomorrow as I need to best my time to close the gap on Bill and Lars.

I think it was DC rainmaker who tested turbo tyres and found them to offer no advantage over normal tyres on a turbo. My uphill efforts improved markedly when I adopted Bills tyre recommendation.

I run tubeless in real life. Schwalbe ones in 28m. A joy to ride and they have been brill with punctures including in the Alps and on a 24h London to Paris. Sealed In Seconds and no roadside repairs. Highly recommended.

I bought a very cheap rear wheel and put a continental sport 23 for on the bkool. And outside I switch to a gatorskin hard shell 28. I would say they are Brill but I haven't googled it yet and don't know if it means it is better than great. Never a flat.
