Your post reminded me of watching a weird programme at lunchtimes (I could get home quickly from Primary School, and had a mum who made lunch every day) that I had to look up - Pipkins!

I also really liked The Ghosts of Motley Hall and Rentaghost, also didn't like Worzel Gummidge though I was Blue Peter and Swap Shop.

Finally I remembered a programme that scare the pants off me where dummies came to life - apparently it's called The Enchanted Castle. Weird.
Pipkins was class.

I could never get into Rentaghost though, that jester, was it Mr Meeker? was way too irritating.

It ain't half hot mum. Crown court. Rainbow. All watched wearing a shirt with hot air balloon pattern and 2 foot wide collar, platform soled maroon and green shoes, and "brush denim" brown and white flares with a kung fu fighter embroidered on sides.
Wish I could afford therapy!
I had a shirt with hot air balloons on it.

We couldn't afford a Chopper so I had a Black Hawk bike which we bought from Woolworths, looked similar to this:

...though without the huge handlebars - I'm sure it had a plastic number on the front too...

We got out first colour telly in 1974. It lasted till we got a tv with teletext in 1989. Do tvs last that long these days? I remember we had the colour turned up to maximum, so much so that everyone was orange with a flame like affect following them. My dad said that if he was going to pay for a colour license he was going to have colour!!

We had a TV and Video Player from Radio Rentals with a Remote Control! Er, which had a wire going back into the telly. My dad always made us hide the videos when we took them back to the shop in case we got robbed , though he was quite happy for us to be SEEN in the video shop with it's big windows...

I seem to remember the bracket at the front breaking constantly due to me trying wheelies and having to get someone at my Dad's work to weld it back together.

I remember my gran bought myself and my 2 older brothers demin jackets - sounds good, but they had massive flowers stiched into the front of them. Of course we had to wear them every Sunday when we visited her. I actually quite liked mine...
I had a denim jacket with elasticated cuffs and waist, in a stripey pattern, and collars as big as a Buzzard's wings. I used to buy patches on the market, and get my mum to sew them on. My parents wouldn't let me keep the "legalise pot" one. I had absolutely no idea what it meant, when I bought it.. ☺

Patches were cool - flowers were not...

I was born in 1971. I remember hearing Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio. That's one of my earliest memories and I still like Queen to this day. We'd always listen to the top 30 (it became the top 40 later I seem to remember) on the radio while we had Sunday tea. Tongue sandwiches featured a lot. There were these colourful spooks biscuits too with names like Yellow Peril.

My earliest cinema memory was going to see Star Wars with my dad. The cinema felt huge. The screen looked massive. We sat at the front of the circle (I remember there was an upper circle too) and the sight of that huge ship at the start blew me away. I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

I vaguely remember my dad fitting central heating in our house. He learnt how to do it from books. We moved not long after to a house that already had central heating. By contrast my nan's house was freezing. She had a gas fire and paraffin heaters. We'd walk to the petrol station to fill up the can. She had a twin tub washing machine from the 60s that she used right into the 80s.

I remember walking to school to get a silver jubilee crown in 1977. I took my Tom Baker Dr Who doll with me and lost his hat on the way back. I spent ages looking for it but never found it.

I remember the half-penny and the ha'penny chews like Mojos.

I remember the summer of 76. I also remember a greenfly plague but can't remember the year (so could've been early 80s) but no one else does so I might've dreamt that.
There was a ladybird plague in the long hot summer of 76. The little buggers got everywhere and they could bite as well.
I remember that but don't remember getting bitten. I collected them and put them in a wooden box full of earth. They all died. I still feel a little guilty about that.

I just had a quick Google for aphid plagues in the 70s and it might be that the aphid plague caused the ladybird plague, at least that's the theory here -> http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-240359.html.
