I've just ordered a bike box so that's me pretty much set for Wales. Now that I've run out of things to buy to occupy my brain, I might actually have to put some miles in on the bike!

Which box did you get Tommy? I'm thinking of getting 'Bikebox Alan'. Lots of garish colours to choose from:biggrin:

Bingo! ^_^

I went for the black one though as it's slightly cheaper than the rest . Once I'd settled on a hard case everything pointed towards bikebox Alan. Hopefully it lasts a lifetime. I'm thinking I can cram my clothes into it as well so I'll only need a small back pack for travel stuff.

I used a similar one for Tenerife and you can fit loads inside

I like the idea of taking some pain killers with you, I've not done that before but is a great tip.
These will be the first things I pack ... even before I pack the bike!!! On the turbo for short rides I need pain killers 50% of the time for the back so there is no way I could ride all day without them. Just ibruprofen, nothing stronger, but it's the anti-inflamatory effects I need as much as anything else.

Have you tried a localised ibuprofen based cream? I have no idea if a cream or gel would be a suitable replacement but my physio had a real go at me for taking ibuprofen tablets to ride on the turbo. Non targeted or something and actually dulls or adversely affects performance. It's not tremadol! So I have stopped. He suggested gels much better at targeting joint pain and inflammation where flesh is thin e.g. Elbow, knee, wrist and perhaps spine?

Don't you just hate it when non specialists like me give you specialist advice:rolleyes:^_^

Interesting, didn't know there was a link. I've tried pain creams before and they have irritated my skin so I've tended to avoid them, but might have another try.

Because of some training I need, I am not going to make the DD this year. It is a huge disappointment. But I am doing it in 2018 come hell or high water.

in a real spin now :wacko: just been out on bestest bike and done 80
i had ruled that bike out as comfort was an issue after 60 but although my legs had gone a bit bandy i didnt feel too bad
now i really cant make mind up as to which bike to train on - and i know i have got to do more as it was only 4000ft with wobbly legs
after 10000 ft i hope there will be a friendly farmer to put me out of my misery with his double barrel !
