Yes, I must admit I start getting a bit fed up after I've been out for a while. I think I will start going out more often but shorter distances whether that is cycling, jogging or walking. I am inclined to do a lot first thing then sit around too much later whereas it would be healthier to move more often but shorter distances I think.

Again, I agree.

The problem for me is that as I pick up the mileage (cycling & low-level walking) my time-gap needed to do either obviously gets bigger and bigger.

And, fitting a longer activity in between the iffy weather we have and/or other life activities becomes more problematic.

Maybe more shorter rides and shorter walks is the way to go...

As far as weddings go - my wife's son and his partner got engaged some time ago
I presume they will get married at some point but the kids (3 of them now after the 'surprise' a couple of years ago!) make planning arther difficult
I am assuming that we will be contributing some dosh to the event but her parents are - we think - reasonably well off so I presume it will be a 2 way thing

I do wonder about people who go on about their wonder and expensive wedding and honeymoon and then moan about how they can't see how they will ever be able to buy their own house

at least our lot already have their own house

Anyway - more normal topic - dunno what is wrong with me - for the last few years I have tried to get up at 8 a.m. - which has often been a bit of a struggle as I find I am awake by 6 or 7
but recently I find I just fall asleep again and struggle to get up when it is already 9
I am also still on iron tablets - for the second time in a year - so I am wondering it there is something a bit wrong
I guess I have to wait until the 6 months or tablet comes to a close and then get a new blood test

Probably nothing wrong at all. Maybe just a natural shift in your wake/sleep cycle.

Here, it appears to be on average 1-2am to bed and 9-10am get up. Used to be very different when we both had full-time careers.

Even the thought of getting up before 9am is horrendous.

It is hard to get back into cycling and I agree it is easy to have false expectations after a layoff. Not sure what to do about that though!

I suffer from finding cycling pretty boring full stop tbh and even after just a couple of hours or so I have had enough for the day. It's just a means to an end ie staving off the Grim Reaper. The same with low level walking.

Yet, when fully fit, I can walk in the mountains all day and thoroughly enjoy it.

When I had the time I could enjoy cycling all day, even if I was cycling alone.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
What a difference an hour makes. Mr WD wanted fish and chips so we went to town. Came back and the sun is shining and it's warm now.

I didn't fancy what he has so I had egg on toast when we came back. I do like egg on toast, and beans on toast. If I was on my own, I'd eat a lot of that sort of thing in the summer and casseroles in the winter.

I had scrambled egg on toast too.

This weather is a bit changeable but I will risk a walk soon. Safer taking a jacket, even if I have to carry it.

We spent the morning in town and called in to Jubilee Junction for lunch on the way home, I've had a bacon and egg batch, it was raining when we left the cafe but we had the worse of it while we were on the bus, I was able to push my Good Lady home from the bus stop in the dry.

Pleased to say I still have some money. Its been a worthwhile exercise as the increase in our spending in the last 12 months is more than I had thought. This is inflation, not us living the high life.

In a sort of related way has anyone else noticed more brands are finding there way into discount stores? Aldi in particular seem to have far more branded goods than six months ago.

The other thing I've noticed is own brand product quality is declining. Quite noticeable with some Aldi cleaning products, seems the amount of active ingredient(s) has been reduced. Much like the ever shrinking packet of crisps - lucky to get a dozen crisps these days.

Apart from the early days C1970s we have never done a budget.
We knew what we (me) earned and just made sure we didn't spend any more than that.

Personally, I have always done a budget. For me, it is the only way to maintain control of my Finances, for others, perhaps that is not so, each to their own. ;)

As for weddings, with four daughters, the potential prospect of paying for four wedding did not appeal.

So far, only three of them have "tied the knot". We gave each of them a set amount for the wedding, if they wanted more exotic, they had to find the difference.

Daughter 1 opted for a low key affair, still together after 27 years

Daughter 2 opted for lots of guests, but, an an inexpensive venue, lasted 12 years

Daughter 3 opted for a grand affair, funded mostly by herself and husband, still together after 15 years

Daughter 4 has had a few "trial runs' but has not found 'Mr Right" yet ;)
