Saw The Lemonheads last night in Camden.
Not sure if it was my managed expectations, but it was great. Evan was happy, so it was a good gig. No ranting or anything. Just him wandering onstage, emptying his satchel of books, crayons and pictures onto the floor, and straight into The Great Big No.
I think the structure of playing with a band (and especially playing a whole album) keeps him (generally) on track when he's on an up day, and the guys playing in the band worked wonders with the randomness that he throws out.
A few rambling nonsense stories, a weird interlude when he played the keyboard solo, a couple of forays into the audience, some false starts with covers of songs that the band definitely weren't expecting, but overall 90 minutes of absolute joy.
I loved it.
(If you can, get to the front.)
