I went to one of the Mumford and Sons album launch gigs last night at Bath Forum - my wife is a fan.
45 minute set of the new album and three old tracks was good value for £20. Especially for a stadium level act. They get a lot of hate, but meh.

Im going to an album launch in an actual Local Bike Shop Record Store tomorrow - I'm absurdly over-excited! Perhaps cos I haven't been in a record shop since C*vid, and they sell coffee/beer, and it just seems like a cool "Muso" thing to do.

If the album/show are any good I'll post details

Morning after .... what a great little event! Aussie trio Howling Bells release their first album in 10+ years. A very cool 20+mins from a very slick trio on a tiny stage. Beer sold.

After the ritual signing-of-the CD, we flicked through the shop's LP racks for half-an-hour (beers in hand), reminiscing about old band loves, shouting "You MUST listen to this sometime!". Then stumbled off for a cheap chinese and more story-swapping. A super evening out !!!

A nice review (with video links): https://echoesanddust.com/2026/02/howling-bells-strange-life/
Setting Sun - the wonderful debut single you may remember them from -

Just seen this! Must be the season for these. Quite like MandS - screw the haters!
P.s. I'm paying less than £20 ;-)

Not a gig, but related. I went to see the play 'The Battle' in Birmingham last night, the story of Blur vs. Oasis. Good fun and nice bit of nostalgia. Matthew Horne in the lead role.

I'm weeks behind but we went to see Florence and The Machine in Sheffield last month. Highly enjoyable and a really good performance from the whole band.

David O'Doherty in a new small venue in our local pub in Cardiff. Very funny guy with a mix of music and humour. Had a nice chat with him in the bar about old bikes and our preferences between Campagnolo and Shimano. He's definitely an Italian bike, Campag bloke.

Incidentally a support act was Colin Manford...much funnier than his brother Jason imo.

Saw him at Edinburgh a couple of years ago. Really enjoyed it.

Not last night but over the weekend we spent a couple of nights at The Electric Ballroom in Camden seeing The Hold Steady during their Weekender.
As usual they were on top form playing all of the tracks from the Boys and Girls in America album as it is it's 20th anniversary; the first night was the better of the two as the second was a bit 'looser' .

Which pub was that?
I'm in Cardiff so will look out for future gigs there.

I was there on Saturday, with my son and daughter.
We all enjoyed it.
Here's one of my son's photos
