What have you bought for the bike today ?

Having now got ‘comfort’ sorted on the Trek FX3 Disc:

(Via set-back seatpost)…*And hopefully this has been confirmed via today’s 50km ride with zero right hand numbness which I ALWAYS got on this bike…….

I decided i need some more Silver to go with the Polished seat-post and pedals.
So to break up that slab of Black upfront [Bars, levers, stem, grips etc etc] I’ve today purchased:

Titanium: Stem to bars bolts x 4, seat-post bolt x 1, and stem to fork steerer x 2:

And also some Titanium stem spacers:

Should break it up. Plus I’ve saved a shed-load 🙄 of weight in the process…..

The Danish Endurance actually had an imperfection (Small hole) upon arrival - so I got a refund……after never getting to try them.

The replacement cheap set (FDX Brand) have been ace so far in 200 (?) miles total and 3 x continuous 50k rides.

I should now think about upgrading for sure. I’ll look up Altura….thanks ! 🙏

I have some FDX bib tights that have seen many years use.Very comfortable and the only problem has been loose stitching on the pad.I'd be happy to use their equivalent bib shorts.

Two very boring but necessary 27.5" tubes from Halfords - after BC discount and cashback a fairly reasonable ~£3.50 each.
Had not clocked that the 2nd hand MTB I bought off a fellow club member had 27.5" wheels, and having never had a bike with such wheels, had no inner tubes. Happily the bike which was a birthday present is liked, and she has been out on it already :-)

More interestingly, ordered one of these fairly random 'all road' jerseys just to see what it's like, may send it back - reduced from a fairly crazy £120 to a more palatable £39.99 - plus a bit of TCB.

Plus having just been riding in the mountains, I fancied a real packable jacket purely for wind resistance on the descents (I realise it's not a breathable offering, and also won't be overly precious about it), so though this Castelli item for £28 was a decent purchase to take out there with me when I get to go to Spain, Italy, France etc.

Decathalon Chain Cleaner and Plant Based Degreaser

After years of mickling the chain, thought I'd buy this for a more thorough job.

I have one of those that looks fairly similar from Planet X iirc - it definitely works well, though I tend to find that if you are a little too rigorous with your approach, the chain ends up popping this out of the cleaner:

Not the end of the world, more a minor irritation I guess.

Perhaps the Decathlon one is a better design.

The accident bit is not good, hope everything is fully mended now?

Spot on, I've had a fair few Castelli bargains from Merlin, though Saddleback can also be worth a look on occasion too.

To add to the natural coloured Titanium bolts I’ve bought to mix-up / contrast the swathe of all black afront the Trek FX3 - I’ve also today taken delivery of a Silver CNC’d in the UK: Polished Stem cap.

Should look really good with all 6 stem / bar bolts fitted and some mainly Silver decals I’ve bought for the forks……fingers crossed 🤞

Fitted a new stem on the roadbike. Reason? Been having an annoying creak for the last week or so around the handleba/headset area. un wrapped the bartape and inspected and cleaned the shifter clamps.Took the bike out and the creak was still present. Unscrewed the bolts that held the handlebars on, cleaned and regressed, still the bike creaked.Did the same with the bolts holding the stem to the steerer tube, another ride and the creak was annoyingly still present. Thought sod it and completely stripped the front end. Took the stem off, flipped it upside down and to my horror found a crack it, running from the steerer tube end, halfway along the length and around both sides . To say I’ve been lucky would be an understatement, some of my rides I’ve been descending at over 40mph with it creaking away

Yikes - it's a good job that you spotted that!

It reminds me of once ignoring a creak from the front of my mountain bike and nearly paying a big price for that...

Creaks can be a warning! I overtightened the bolts on one stem which creaked until the threads pulled out at the bottom of a descent. Fortunately, the bars didn't rotate until I had nearly stopped!

On another occasion I spotted something when cleaning another bike...

(A square taper crank which would have snapped before long if I hadn't got lucky and noticed it before it could happen!)

This has reminded me that I am getting an occasional click from the front of my best bike when I hit bumps in the road at speed. I really should try to find out what is making that noise!

I forgot that I came on here this evening to say that I bought a bag of creatine for [me to get fitter for riding] the bike. I have watched a few videos about creatine recently and wondered what it might do for me. I have been a vegetarian since 1983 so there is a good chance that I am a bit lacking in it. I also wonder if I am getting enough protein so I am thinking of boosting my protein intake too.
