Novatec. Nothing special, but do look nice. I've had Novatec hubs for years and never had any problems.

I've looked into upgraded wheels for one of the fleet today. My lbs has suggested DT Swiss rims and Novatec hubs - to cover the remit of cost, weight and known brands. The hubs initially worried me. Now I see how they make hubs for others and are commonly used; with spares readily available - I'm feeling much happier.

Yep, they've never let me down. Unlike Shimano hubs have.

Yes had them on Spa hand built wheels. Not flash but been reliable.

Novatec hubs and similar are really easy to service - rear hubs very repairable and the bearings are cartridge are press out, even for the freehub.

Thankyou 😁 I got to handle / touch / feel / listen to a rear today - and it seemed good. All reviews I've read say the same as you. As long as they are sealed bearings - it should all be fine 👍

If they can assure me I can save 500g on the pair: I'll give them the go-ahead......

Appreciate the further reassurance. The servicing / ongoing keeping working is of course important. So great to know it should be pretty stress free.......

I run them on my Boardman FS - and the rear wheel got a hammering a few years back with mud/water etc, and they were easy to swap bearings out. Very easy to look after if they need a service. Make sure you get decent rims, spokes and tyres - that's where the 'important' weight is - a slightly heavier hub doesn't affect performance.

Yup; going with DT Swiss rims and spokes, along with Premium.lightweight, folding rubber. Should save very nearly a KG over current setup 👍

Exciting! Combined with a 6800 chain I already have, to hopefully eliminate what feels like a cog slip on the turbo trainer, combined with a zwift cog thing.

Some Custom built wheels have been ordered for the ‘Speedy Hybrid, Gravely, Leisure’ build / upgrades.

Current Bontrager wheels it’s running on are 2170g all in. The new DT Swiss rim / spokes combo with Hope hubs should be both super tough - and will come in around 1640g the pair saving 530g. If I can then save around the same from swapping out the current Schwalbe Marathon tyres on that bike (Which should be very easy) along with TPU tubes - I’ll have saved way more than a Kilo; reasonably cost efficiently…..

Another happy Novatec hub customer here as well. They came as standard fitment on my Gravel Bike. Over 20,000 km and only the rear hub has needed new bearings just the once. I did need to replace the top hat, which seals the bearings on the rear and went through their customer service in the Czech Republic. Amazing service, personal friendly and efficient.

I only found great reviews everywhere. With basically no bad ! For the money they appear to be really incredible value.

However as a balance of building wheels both lighter and stronger; I couldn’t save 500g from where I am - with the Novatech based combo I had in mind.

So; I’ve had to chuck in another few hundred £££ - but hopefully it should be a heavy duty, strong and ‘future proof’ set of wheels that will last many years. (See my post above yours). And which has saved my 530g. Pretty much it was this - or don’t bother; as I said from the start: 500g was my cut off point at which I wouldn’t bother if it couldn't be done at the budget I had in mind. *Until bright and shiny Hope hubs appeared on the Horizon that is…….

It's a slippery slope when you start thinking about Hope kit ; it is excellent stuff though and I've had no issues at all with the Hope hubs (lost track of how many I have .
