What have you bought for the bike today ?

It's a slippery slope when you start thinking about Hope kit ; it is excellent stuff though and I've had no issues at all with the Hope hubs (lost track of how many I have .

I’ve always admired from afar - but I’m not sure through all my BMX, MTB and now ‘mixed’ riding days; I’ve knowingly owned a single Hope item.

Believe it or not, if finding something on sensible budget, that fitted my eye, came in under weight wasn’t hard enough; Even more difficult was combining all that with something hub-wise that would take QR skewers !

Bike they are currently (?) going on is a Trek 2022-25 model in essence. And was bought new in late 25. I’ve already been told the 1 x 10 gearing is ancient Tech. Now I’m struggling to upgrade the wheels because QR is basically unsupported 😂

Either way - the Hope Pro 5 Hubs I’m getting - apparently take adaptors to go from through axle to QR. And so can be used for both. So perhaps I’ve future proofed them ongoing a bit, made a sale easier if needed, could swap between some of my bikes etc

For me it owning something different to everyone else / Custom made too. It’s not not to look like a clone. And I’m going Polished look with the hubs and raw Stainless spokes. Hopefully they’ll Dazzle in more ways than one.

Not today, forgot to add to this thread.

A couple of weeks ago, a new wheelset - nothing special, Fulcrum Racing 800DB, my old set (that came on the bike) had all the paint flaking off and were starting to crack around the spokes after over 15K miles in all weathers. £160, which I think was a decent price, even for those.

And then on Monday, a new DJI OSMO 4 Action camera (£209 from Argos), to replace the GoPro that died two years ago.

Following a debacle last August bank holiday and with a 3 week LEJOG planned i bought a Lezyne HP Micro Floor Drive Pump HP. It ticked all my boxes, does not require charging, has a gauge, can achieve 70 psi in a reasonable amount of time. This morning I noticed it has come apart inside my handlebar bag. It wasn’t in pieces just the threaded part that holds the up and down handle was unscrewed and an o ring was not in position. I put it back together and tested it, all seems goo, except I then found a second o ring on the floor !

I have looked at the Lezyne website in the vain hope of finding an exploded assembly drawing, no such luck.

Has anyone on here got a drawing/image or know where the second o ring might have come from. It’s not the one on the piston as that’s a square section like a piston ring.

My LBS couldn’t open an account with Hope; and get the hubs for my planned Wheel build in a very timely fashion. So advised me to get the hubs myself.

I know plenty of guys on here talk about / use / ride Spa cycles - so I bought from them.

About the cheapest out there on the inter web too. And free post. What can possibly go wrong 🙄😂

And now that I appear to have become an overnight ‘Weight Weenie’ - you can add 2 x Tan Goodyear folding tyres at sub 300g each, Titanium brake disc bolts, pack of 4 x TPU Inner Tubes, and some rim tape to today’s spends.

By my reckoning it’s going to net me a total weight saving of right around 1.7kg on the complete wheel set-up with tyres. (New light weight custom’s Vs the old stock wheels; with Schwalbe Marathons on). Should just about be noticeable…..😳

That's a cracking price in todays climate, I recall buying a couple of pairs way back in something like 2010 probably, and they were a smidge over £100 a pair back then.
They will almost certainly outlast you, as mine will me.

Just don't inflate the tpu tubes too much before mounting, just enough to get them to fit as they don't take to being inflated too high out of the tyre.

Oh and those bolts will need copper grease (or any grease that's designed for use with ti) on them;I had some on a CBR 600 that I forgot to grease and they wouldn't come out when I came to part-ex it

Yes - I’d read that on TPU tubes thanks. Will have to make sure I don’t get carried away. Not that I’d ever do that…..🙄

Yes - Mechanical Engineering / Machinery repair / Fabrication is my trade by day. Well was per-se. Looking after / looking at and quoting more is these days - while I manage the Team doing. So normally I’m effectively sorting someone else’s Bi-metallic issues, from lack of lube, maintenance or knowledge. So installing bolts / fixings dry doesn’t feature highly in my life as you can imagine 😉

I've been trying out these Surly bags for my longtail, and they're working at least as well as the old bags. Having searched for a very long time and finding these almost by accident, I don't want to be in the same situation again when I finally wear these out; which is inevitable as this is still my "car substitute bike" and gets taken on everything from shopping trips to bicycle tours.

To avoid this, or at least put it off a bit longer, I waited until payday and ordered another pair of bags. Hopefully that will mean I can use the bike I bought in 1997 for a few more decades, until I'm so creaky I cave in and buy a Tern Orox.

Bumping off a small curb: very early this Morning - for the first time ever my toolbox holder jumped out of the bottle cage, slid across the floor (Like it was on ice) and went under the front wheel of a van coming the other way. The first vehicle I’d seen for 1/2 hour 🤦‍♂️

I heard the crunch - however it must have just been the top / cap. As the Holder was fubar’d but everything inside survived 🙏

So I collected it all together. Chucked a few bits in my jersey pockets; and fashioned a makeshift emergency lid for the rest (That would fit - in the now slightly shortened toolbox) from one of the nitrile gloves that are part of the spares kit. Chucked in back in the cage - and carried on riding…..😁

Figured I’d buy new discs for the new wheels - then I can literally remove the (49 mile old 🙄) wheels on the bike: and sell as a set completely ready to go with tyres, brake discs, skewers etc.

And then you start looking into weights of course 😙 **And whether floating discs (And the buttons on them) will clear my calipers. So the below discs may just be ‘temporary’. Either way i should now have every single part bought and on the way…….
