Puzzle game procrastinator!
I put 6.5 bar (94 psi) in the rear and 6.0 bar (87 psi) in the front. I will do a test ride now and see how I get on with those pressures.
I did my test ride up the Burnley Rd and back. There are some patches of smooth tarmac along there but an awful lot of rough chip-and-seal.

The tyres were rolling nicely on the smooth surface but I really was not enjoying the rougher stuff at those pressures!

I stopped at Cornholme and let out some pressure... Pft Pft Pft Pft at the front, and the same at the rear. The tyres still rolled pretty well, but the vibration due to the poor road surface was much reduced. Let's say from rather horrid to slightly irritating.

On the faster return leg I was still feeling a bit too much vibration so I stopped again and gave the front valve another couple of quick dabs. I rode on and was happy with those pressures front and rear. Still high enough to roll well, and to avoid pinch flats on anything less than big hits; low enough to be comfortable enough for most road surfaces that I am likely to tackle.

The only pressure gauge that have is on my track pump so I will have to squeeze the tyres to get an idea of how hard they feel now, then let them down a little and pump them back up to read the pressures. I would guess around 5.25 bar front and 5.75 bar rear. I will do that now and report below...

Hmm... I had clearly let out more pressure than I thought! Front and rear were both at around 5 bar (~75 psi). I normally put a little more pressure in the rear tyre than the front but 5 bar seemed to be good for both so I will stick to that. It is certainly easy to remember and read off the gauge!

Don't know if it's classed as fettling but a new GP5000 on the front and old front - rear.

Yesterday afternoon was spent fettling after the sun had gone over the patio.

First a quick check over of the better half's Kona Smoke(set up with XT and Magura hydro rim brakes)as it's not been used for a while;all good although the Maguras are always a p.i.a to set up and slightly sticky gear cables.

Second new TA chain rings on the Faran in it's new analogue mode(Ultegra/105 11-spd mechanical currently with TRP Spyres) ; needed a smaller inner ring especially as the previous was too big as it says on the Fairlight design notes:rolleyes::whistle: .

And thirdly gave the Stayer All-Road a look at as am planning a poodle out early tomorrow morning ; do have a Ultegra rear calliper to fit so everything matches:becool:;) ,but that's a job for another day.

Oh and in the morning put best part of two 800kg bags of gravel on the front garden.

Barnet,
Put a new pair of Panaracer Pasela 28mm tyres on my Raleigh Royal.
The Vittoria Zaffiro's 32mm that were on it didn't feel right.
I have Panaracer tyres on a couple of other bikes and I like the way they feel and roll.

Bit of work on the commuter today
Greased the wheel bearings, got the indexing sorted and recabled the back brake but i think it needs a new outer as the metal cable end is not allowing the brake barrel adjuster to turn as i had to use pliers to get it out of the old barrel adjuster which had seized so i had to use a lot of force to get it out meaning i had to replace it .

I have to use a pannier bag to get my stuff to work and it occurred to me on Friday that I only have one rideable bike with a rack - so if I came down one morning to find a trye had gone flat overnight, for example, it would be very annoying.

I had spare rack in the cellar - so an easy job - put a rack on the only other currently rideable bike (2 out of 4 ain't bad, right? I have other stuff to do ...)

Did the rack fit the intended bike?
No.
Of course it didn't.

However I knew the rack on the commuter fitted on this bike because it used to be on it. So the rack came off the commuter, and onto the other bike. And the one from the cellar (thankfully) does fit on the commuter. Magic. A bit more work than I had anticipated but all in all, a success.

Just a small matter of checking it all works without any heel-strike - I have a 'Bike Bureau' bag and they are rather long. And ...of course it didn't. To be fair, the other bike was fine, it was the commuter that had the problem. So another 20 minutes was spent faffing about moving pannier clips so that I can fit the bag to two different racks with different vertical bits getting in the way, without getting heel strike on either.

Got there in the end, but why is nothing on bikes ever simple?

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
I'm starting to get things ready for my French tour starting shortly. The first job was to fit some GP5000 AS TR 28mm tyres onto the DT Swiss R460 wheelset I have. They don't go on easily, but done in the end.

I'll be using the Ridley Fenix and I've also added a giant-sized saddle bag so I can carry two large bottles.

I’ve found there’s quite a wide range of pressures I can run without impacting handling or average speed
