New Shimano gear cables sorted my unpredictable gear shifting problem, and made it a much slicker process.

Soaked the chain and cassette from the Trek in my new ultrasonic cleaner - it has a heat function as well so despite being heavily caked with crud they both came out looking more or less like new.

Definitely a huge improvement on my old one which was tiny and intended for small jewelry and the like.

If I had a chain that clean I would be wearing it as jewellry😉

I don't know if I could be bothered to do that, but it sounds like an interesting device. Could you tell us what model it is and post a link to where you bought it?

Definitely worthwhile, it only takes a few moments to take the chain off and dump it in, this was a test run on my worst bike so a years worth of accumulated grime. I got it mostly because I also service other peoples bikes - my Dad, my brother's kids, my friends and their kids, so being able to clean the worst parts whilst servicing the rest is useful.

I picked up a 6L DK Sonic from Amazon - link here and opted for one of the larger ones, definitely worth it for me, but I've had good use out of the cheap ultrasonic cleaner I got a good 8 years or so ago which still works fine and cost about £30 at the time - but the bath was about 1L so couldn't hold as much.

If I wasn't planning to put so many parts at once in the thing I'd probably go for the 3L version instead of the 6L - just filling it with degreaser is an exercise and I've got three milk bottles with used degreaser in the garage I've now got to avoid knocking over - I plan to filter and reuse it rather than using a new set of liquid each time.

Lad at work was going to throw this out due to gears not changing and rear puncture! Gears tweaked, puncture sorted and seat post shortened (bikes for the 13 year old lad)

Tyre day today, the GP5000 All Seasons have been faultless but it was time to top up the tubeless sealant - I noticed a slight weep around a spoke hole so I guessed the rim tape was leaking. Since I would have to remove the tyre I decided to put the Gravel King SKs back on, especially as I seem to be doing more offroad riding these days. These are great tyres with good offroad grip and not noticably slower on the road than the Contis. I run 38mm rear with 32mm front (made a mistake when I bought them!) it's a great combination, the rear breaks away first so no grip issue with the narrower front - maybe I've started a trend ^_^

I have kept the Gravel Kings running tubes as they are pretty robust and I can't find my reel of tubeless rim tape!

Fettling of a different sort today - I replaced the clock battery (CR2025) in my 1997 Sony Mavica MVC-FD7 digital camera, I also formatted some new 3.5" floppy discs ready for a lo-fi photo shoot tomorrow, the Sony shoots at a delightfully fuzzy 640 x 480 pixels, the 70k image files are written to a 3.5" floppy disc, maximum storage is about 20 images per disc.

Tandem front shift not quite right and hasn't been for ages. It's outside of the nominal spec so can be a little temperamental.

In no particular order:

Fitted asymmetric shim
Reset derailleur height
Reset derailleur angle
Faffed about with cable tension
Removed bar tape
WD40 down cable outers
Replaced cable
Swapped derailleur for a spare I have
Repeated most of above several times.

Now working perfectly, though I'm not at all sure what was actually needed...

Well done to get that sorted! Front shifts are always a bit brutal, in the past I've had more trouble with them than rear shifts - now I run a Rohloff!
