deglazed brake pads and cleaned rotors
The pads on my replacement front brake (see a couple of posts back) were not biting as well as they should have on my test ride this afternoon. I am sure that the rotor is fine because there was no problem with the previous front brake and I have not gone near the rotor with any contaminants.

I will try doing some heavy front wheel braking on (safe!) long fast descents to see if that improves brake efficiency. I do have spare pads available if needed.

just ordered a new disc for the back as it was warped pretty badly, its a commuter and i do have a steep descent so maybe the rack and panniers give it extra load and heat,

Swapped out the cable adjuster at the lever for the front brake on the hack. It’s been somewhat malformed (though functioning) since it went on the bars, but it’s what I had at the time.

Several bikes are currently in varying states of repair. A rather nice MTB is almost done and waiting for mudguards and a luggage rack, A lovely, near mint condition trekking bike is waiting for the correct Magura brake blocks; I've got a Gudereit city bike somewhere that needs checking, and yesterday we received a BB which I mounted on a city bike. Of course, after I'd finished, I realised I'd not put the chain guard holder on first, so guess what I'll be doing this morning...

Just stripped the covers off the turbo to see if i can see anything wrong with it , i had read the worm drive cant get stuck so i sprayed some gt 85 along it .
I wonder if keeping it in the shed doesnt help this time of year ? Im going to keep it inside for now to see if it makes any difference.

I wasn't happy with the alignment of the brake assembly so today I put the bike up on the workshop stand and had a good look at the brake. It wasn't right so I loosened the mounting bolts and realigned it. It looks a lot better now and the front wheel spins freely without the disc rubbing.

There was heavy rain all day here, which put me off going out. Sunshine is forecast for tomorrow though so I will give the brake a good test then. I suspect that the pads will still be iffy, but I will see if heavy braking can revive them.

Finished my latest 20” build.
A Heavily modified 2025 Eastern Traildigger (Bar cleaning the ‘wax’ off the tyres) 🙄

Bought new at a steal of a price in the Black Friday sales; for the full 4130 Frame, Double wall rims. And not much else - which got removed and binned !

I’ve gone with Chrome / Polished everything else - Inc 4-piece Volume Mad Dog bars, Haro Mesa Greywall tyres, Grey WTP pedals, Mafia Chrome cranks, Sunday polished stem, Tech 77 lever, KMC chain, Odyssey Slic cable blah blah. Rides good👌

Had to pull the front brake pads and wheel to clean them as some minor bit of filth had the brake howling somethin’ fierce.

anyway, you have to pull off one of the tubs to get clearance to pull the trough axel to drop the wheel. Never mind finding some way to prop the front off the ground so the job can be accomplished. Can’t wait till I have to fix a flat on this thing!

I think Ive finally put the finger on what is causing the inside of my ankle to be sore. Its been fine the last two weeks but on the 2nd half of my ride today it was agony again. Then it clicked with the cr@ppy weekend weather I've not been on that bike for a while. The bike has done nearly 37,000 miles with the setup so I don't think its the actual bike which is the problem. But at the start of the year I got new shoes and Ive went up a half size (the old shoes were close but fine until I started chemo). So tonight's fettle was slightly straightening up the cleat to see if that helps. I might need to investigate mid foot cleats converters though, as the cleat is back as far as it can go and that's the real change 🤔

Was riding home from work on Tuesday a mile in then with pedals just suddenly stopped solid.
Initially expected the chain to have dropped of the bottom of the cassette.
However no, the front mech had decided to become entangled in the largest chain ring.
I have no idea why, no idea what damage and movement occurred before or after. Managed to beat it onto the granny ring and rode, slowly home.

Plan was to get up the following morning pack the kids off then aquire a new front mech, build up intime for the afternoon commute.

Got up the following morning to find the missus had left a note to say she'd left the lights on in her car and flattened the battery so she'd taken mine!.... My car had the battery charger in it!. Long story short, got the car going got a new FD. Not the same model so couldnt just use the old marks to line it up and its been ages since I did one..... Got to work 5 mins late with 8/24 gears.
After work spent some time in the warm empty office with the bike getting it more like set up properly with basic tools. I've now got most gears back!
