When it starts to pour down and you have left your waterproofs at home, then you get a puncture.

Ive not been well for the last 3 weeks or so and have not been out at all.

Think i am getting over it now, but silly works hours are not helping.

Sometimes ignore rule 5 and listen to your body.

I cycle to keep fit and enjoy myself, it is not a punishment.

In answer to your question. Cycling isn't enjoyable when a) it's pissing it down with rain on a 85 mile commute b) you get a puncture around 40 miles in and c) your that cold that you can't function probably.

Yes this is what happened to me on Friday!

Its snowing on and off here but not laying with a 30 mph freezing easterly wind,I keep going out the back door trying to man up a bit and thinking about how many strava records I could potentially destroy with the wind at my back:whistle: but the thought of fighting a head wind that strong combined with the wind chill is putting me off.:surrender:
I'm glad it's not just me  Weather-wise it's most odd today - we've just gone from a driving blizzard to clear blue skies... but that biting wind remains constant.

I've busied myself with all those other jobs I've been putting off for the last few weeks. Cycling can wait for another day

Looking out of the window this morning, its looked ok outside, I like cycling on a quiet sunday morning, no crazy car drivers rushing to work,no parents on the school run, all trying for that bit of space on the road, and sod any cyclist that get in the way.

But this sunday morning, having a nice lie in bed. gettin up without nothing to do apart from a nice bike ride. I opened the front door to be greeted by a arctic blast of wind, my god it was cold, I thought I better put on a extra coat before I get on the bike, I will soon warm up I thought.

Then a mile down the road, with that arctic wind blowing into my face, my teeth were chattering, and could not even feel my fingers, I headed back home, even now with a nice cup of tea and the heating on I am still feeling the cold.

I went out this morning and did 42 miles and it was very very :cold: and it was also snowing when I got up onto the top of the moors and I had a constant headwind/sidewind all the way home and the road home was nearly all up hill, but what the hell its only weather :giggle:

I was contemplating a ride today but when I saw the hail outside I wussed out of it. Couple of hours later, the sun arrives. I can't get my breath.

Went out thjis morning at 6am, had a hard time at first into a 15mph headwind but as i was doing a loop i got the benifit going up crag vale with the wind behind , only downside was when i got on the open moors there was snow / ice / sleet on the roads so had to be a tad carefull

I honestly don't understand why anybody would want to ride in bad weather. There is always another day, and besides, the risks are to high. Breaking something just fo the sake of a bike ride is ot worth it. This is not an obcession but something to enjoy.

I went out today.... defiantly a rule 5 & 9 day....apart from the wind it was ok. No ice, just a little bit of fluff failing and around 0c. 4 layers (2 base, a gabba jacket and a hotpack4 shell) thin liner gloves under some neoprene outer gloves, Full bib tights, Wooly Bully socks and neoprene overshoes....

On really cold days the only real way to stay warm is to go find the big hills and do repeats...that'll keep you warm!!!!

No problem with cold, no problem with rain. But I hate going out in really windy weather. Today in Glossop it was about 15mph so I guess on the tops it would be at least 30mph. No pleasure in riding into that, pretty dangerous as a gusty crosswind

Gonna be cold but less windy later this week, I'm out there

Cycling is not enjoyable when:

It is raining.
Roads/paths are icy.
There is a headwind > 10mph.
It is too cold (< 2C).
It is too hot (> 35C).
There is too much traffic.

Cycling is most enjoyable when:
Bike is properly fettled, weather is within above conditions, and I have 2 weeks to do nothing but pootle around France! Coming up this summer with a bit of luck .

I'm not too bad with cold or rain, but any risk of ice and I'll go on the turbo instead.

Sod Rule #5 - I cycle for fitness & fun, not to impress other men.
