6 - If you have not entered a competition / prize draw / lottery, you cannot have won a prize.

My girlfriend once phoned me up in great excitement to tell me that she had won the Spanish lottery. I told her that she hadn't. Yes, yes, yes she had - she had the letter there in front of her. All she had to do was send a £50 admin fee to ....

I pointed out that (a) She had never bought a Spanish lottery ticket, so how could she win it? (b) No lottery company charges an admin fee to winners. (c) Apparently, I had ALSO won the Spanish lottery, and all I had to was send £50 to the same address ... (d) The picture of 'last month's Spanish lottery winner' was a poorly photocopied photograph of a woman standing in front of a UK national lottery poster!
