A few years ago, on Sky-Arts channel, there was a series called 'Guitar Stories'
I'm not really a fan of Dire Straights, but this was interesting to show how he built the riff

And, yes, he did tell the story of being in the white-goods shop, in the States, & listening to the staff watching MTV, & their comments

Not a solo, but a fantastic bit of guitar work:



The guitarist was a certain John McGeoch, who does not appear in the vid because he had commitments with about two other bands. Sadly no longer with us.

I watched that programme, really enjoyed it. Love his work.
