Just under 55k today; was a slow out faster back kind of ride; sun actually came out for a bit so outer layer was removed around half way round.
Was actually shorter than planned due to a road closure as the Earth road was flooded, although lucratiamyreflection of this parish did post on her Strava that you could actually get through; later on another road closure put paid to another possible extra loop.

The heavy overnight rain passed through leaving lots of standing water but a well rinsed sky. The strong westerly gave me pause as I selected a route which offered some shelter. I headed up river and admired the Lune in spate and picked up provisions at the bakery in Kirby Lonsdale. A second big climb of the day took me up onto the limestone of Farlton Fell. From there I was battling the wind to Beetham and along the Kent estuary to Arnside. I enjoyed a blustery pasty while admiring the railway viaduct and the search and rescue exercise on the mudflats. I eventually turned south and back inland to escape the wind completing 81 km with 1088 m of climbing.

Pictures are of Farleton Fell and Arnside viaduct.

England needs to bring in the 'Right to Roam', where you can wonder across such estates as long as you close the gate behind you.

It would be good if we did follow Scotland in that respect. That particular track runs all the way up through the wood, past The Folly, past our village (within sight of us) and ends up near the end of Scotland Lane, about 2.5 miles of cracking forest track, I'm assuming, obviously, as you're not actually supposed to ride through there ;).

You have the 'Right to Roam' on public roads, lanes and paths - even shopping centres. You are not going to be allowed to roam on my driveway or wheel your bike through my garden..

A question of degree, then you believe? My right not to have you trampling over my little plot is acceptable even protected, but not if my plot is several thousand acres? Do you therefore argue that all property rights are conditional on quantity?
Whilst I recognise and accept that if there are ancient rights of passage they must be respected, but to suggest that sans any such rights any lands anywhere must be surrendered to common usage is tantamount to communistic fervour and must be resisted.

Don't turn this thread into a stupid boring debate. If you don't know what the law is Google it.
