Got out relatively early to beat the heat (and the rest of the week) with no plan just a see how it goes with plenty of get outs if it either got too hot or not feeling it.

Headed out to go down in to West Suffolk via Isleham and Red Lodge, was grey and cool on the way out;

Stayed the same all the way through Cavenham and over the A14 to Barrow.

Lots of cyclists about and came upon a couple in high-viz standing by the road who where marshalling for a car stage rally of some sort.Stopped just along over the brow of the hill (there's a bench situated there) for a food and drink break and heard engine noises so waited and got some iffy pics of some of the participants including an old Merc coupe.

It was still grey and cool at this point.

Re-started and decided on the quicker route past Higham on Coal[it Lane and then the Icknield Way past the Pheonix bike park through Kentford (ancestor territory) and turned off to Kennett to head home.

Was still feeling good at this point so once through Fordham and back up on the Wicken road from Soham ,I thought I'd potentially get a hundred k in. Over the A10 at Streatham and off at Wilburton for the usual ride home I still felt ok so detoured up to Wentworth and through Coveney and Little Downham to get me home with a couple of k's needed to top up the 100 ,so a short loop in Ely rounded it off with the temperature on the way up so happy that I got out early enough to miss the worst of the heat.

101.5km at a 26.7km average so pretty pleased with that .

Oh and when I got back the rear tyre had gone down after a bit so was running at the end with a slow puncture of some sort.

A wee trip to the seaside 🌊 for me today.

Gentile commute in. Slightly longer way in: stretching it to 15 miles (From a minimum of 11). But that did mean I caught some rain arriving at work……🙄

No dramas, mechanical faux-pas or aches and strains with the Pilot. So all good 😁

Hidden away ‘Village’ sign I’m not sure I’d spotted before 🤷‍♂️

More Dynamo ‘Training’ miles under the belt.

Will edit later, but completed the hottest and most humid London to Brighton bike ride on record. Phone died in the heat at Ditchling Beacon, so the last segment wasn't recorded. Walked up, very slowly. The heat in open sun was really punishing.
This year marred by serious accidents, details of which are a bit thin, but one caught thousands of us in a country lane around 12 miles out, and we were stood still for over two hours. Once restarted, my son had Di2 issues, which he eventually resolved by disconnecting everything and plugging it back together. Needs attention!
The delays caused all sorts of issues down the line. The final check point below the Beacon shut on time, meaning one less water stop.
Then, having made it up the Beacon, reconnected with my son (straight up the Beacon non-stop) had an ice cream, we set off again, cruising enjoyably down to the A27/23 and...stopped again for another accident. 30-odd minutes while organisers and police put a diversion in place, then finally got to the finish.
While all this was happening, the announcer at the finish line was saying they'd shut down and pack away at 7.15, despite thousands still unfinished. No other details hiven as to delays, which caused some anxiety for those waiting.
Fortunately, they did not carry though with this madness, and the huge mass of delayed riders got there in the end. There were still stragglers 30 minutes after I finished.
But...job done!

My Bosses partner witnessed the most serious accident. Then got caught in what followed and had one herself. Needed some medical assistance. But got back in the saddle to complete. She’s a tough cookie ! Said it all got a bit fraught though…..

Well done yourself. And your Son 🙏

Bullers of Buchan

Mainly Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Guillemots, Razorbills but there are some Puffins and Cormorants. Just a bit late/early to catch the Puffins as they tend to head out early and come back late to avoid the gulls stealing their catch, and the aroma is quite strong.

I did pass to two road cyclists on the way back who just totally refused to go in single file to let traffic past, is it any wonder motorists get annoyed when cyclists do this.
