Don't buy malts often but when I do I usually find Waitrose have something decent on special offer at about £20 - £25

As christmas approaches, we stock up on spirits that we wouldn't normally drink. Vodka, Gin, Bourbon is all in the freezer. Malt whisky, Brandy, Rum is in the garage. That way, the only thing you need to add is the fruit juice/spritzer/water.

The good thing about chilling spirits is that as you consume them, various flavour notes emerge as they warm up.

Heathen. If you want cold whisky then leave it somewhere cold. Never add ice.
Well we'll just have to agree to differ on that.

true, might as well just add water, and that just spoils good whisky
So why does every guide I've read advocate adding a small amount of water to it? Sampling a flight of whisky at the Grill Bar (and they carry 600 malts) I was passed a jug of water with it and advised to add a few drops to it 'to develop the flavour'
I'll bow to their advice over yours. But however you like yours - Sláinte

Smell it and taste it neat.
Add a teaspoon of water.
Smell it and taste it again.

A small amout of water opens a good malt out.

(And remember folks the distillery added water at the bottling plant...)
