I have just heard on R4 that nobody under the age of 10 has died from the virus worldwide, they believe children have a different immunity to it than adults & it starts to change around the age of 12.

Why is this fact not being put out, the biggest fear of most parents will be that their children get it, the other issue is that children are also likely to be the carriers & it is them that should be kept away from the elderly, not go stay with them whilst the parents go to work.

Wrong thread...please post in doom and gloom

Well, if you're thinking of replacing or just getting a new deep freeze. Don't bother, "every where is sold out!". And the store where I've just started work can't get any more from their suppliers!!!
I have 3. One large chest freezer for me and smallish one for the dog and foraged fruit. Plus one of those silly under the counter ones that aren't much use for anything. We were prepared!! Could have done with a generator just in case. Got rid of the old one as to difficult to move round (far to big)plus electricity grid decided to replace the overhead wires with new underground ones. Resulting in the village get a regular supply of reliable electricity. Should have got one of those suitcase ones.

I have taken delivery of a lace for my trainers from Amazon. Ordered ages ago and given up on it ever arriving - paid 89p delivered so couldn't be bothered to chase it up. I didn't read the small print but was expecting a pair rather than a single.

Good idea for a thread btw. Just need to make sure it stays as advertised.

It's only a tin box that needs to get very cold, provided it does that I wouldn't worry about whether it's new or not.
Not according to Which.
There are some that work better and consequently last longer in locations where the temperature is very variable. I assume they mean garage or shed. Also which ones they consider dangerous and that's a lot. Anyone wanting to use Which, first month 99p there after £9.?? Cancel after a month. Good idea to download pages you might be interested in in the future. They highly recommend IKEA's NiMh batteries both on price and quality.
As my daughter always says every day is a school day!!

Sat in my van sulking, the sun is out I’m at work & all these pensioners keep riding past, it’ll serve em right once they’re all locked inside their houses :okay:
3 cyclist went past me I was out exercising the dog. The first about 35, a miserable get who barely acknowledged me (tosser) the other 2 were old farts really huffing and puffing up a relatively minor hill. One of them looked smug at passing me but thought better of it and just said "those panniers look heavy ". I had 4 bags on, the front ones and rear were large carradice super c. Yes I said they are full of logs. He put his head down and struggled on.

Just rung the pub to check if they will be open Thursday (pie night). Landlord sounded flabbergasted "of course why not?" "Okay can I have a cow cheek pie" "yep no problems". Forgot to ask what the guest pie was. Never mind at least he's open and I can get a pie and and pint of beer (or more). Now all I have to do is book a bus and check if the taxis are running. I could check the Saturday pubs but I only know the first 2 or 3. I might drink to much on Saturday!

This was on another forum & does not appear to be fake news, they seem very sensible rules to try to live by.

From a friend who works with the Royal College of Surgeons.,very useful
From a member of the Stamford and Rutland Hospital Board.
This is their feedback for now on Corona virus:

The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can one know if he/she is infected?
By the time they have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% Fibrosis and it's too late.
Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning.
Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds.
If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it proves there is no Fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicates no infection.
In critical time, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air.
Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases:

Everyone should ensure:
— your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice. 10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water!

THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.
