However, the bus driver definitely jumped a red, and at some speed too. Very dangerous.

This is the problem right there^^^^
benb, you were not there (I guess by some considerable distance?). I was not there (although a little closer and with some knowledge of the roads we are commenting on). The rest of us were not there, except for the OP. Even the Op does not appear rto have seen the bus approaching other than in his peripheral vision, so how can any of us comment on what the bus driver may or may not have done. We did not see his lights and we do not have a clue about the chain of events leading up to the incident. For all we know a little old lady could have stood up and started walking down the aisle of the bus making it a danger for the driver to perform an emergency stop when there was no need to do so. This too is pure speculation, just like a lot of the other comments made in the thread so far. I think the only things we can agree on from viewing the footage is that the bus was moving quite quickly (I think it might be a 40 limit there but not sure), the cyclist clearly was not looking so did not expect the bus to be there and she was incredibly lucky to avoid serious injury. Anything else is irrelivant and talk of walking in to police stations bleating about the big bad bus drivers antics are uncalled for and unfair.

As I said early on in this thread, there will be arguements in favour of both views. What I meant was that clearly being the group of amatuer Poirot's and interweb superslueths that we are we will all be keen to broadcast our views to as wide an audience as possible in the belief that we are 'right'. I am not particularly excluding myself from this description

If it takes a bus longer to stop than the amber phase, perhaps drivers should slow down a bit on approach to a green light if they can see it's been green for a while? That's what I do when piloting a vehicle with really shoot brakes. The driver would presumably be able to see there was no traffic queue in front of him, and there were queues on both the side roads - pretty good indication that a change was in the offing

Cyclist will not assume "go means green" next time thobut ...

I'm just amazed nobody took the opportunity to ask her if she wanted a sit down and a coffee. And a caring ear to listen to her troubles. Available any time, just call me.

I probably would have done but the persons involved and a trained medic dude took authority... I'm first aid trained myself but the situation was in good hands so it seems~

The lights we can see change, and then the bus comes through after that. So either the bus ran a red, or the lights were faulty. I know which one I think is more likely, especially given the speed it was going (seems to me as though the bus driver floored it to try and get through on an amber)

Further speculation! I can take you to a handful of traffic lights just within a few miles of my home where due to the road layouts and the long distances between the stop lines and the jcts (as in the vid) where the lights are phased to start the other traffic going before the vehicles passing in the opposite direction can have cleared the intersection. This is common practice in modern traffic management (whether this is a good or bad thing I cannot possibly pass judgement on).

I think the point is that the light we see changes, but we don't know how far back the stop line for the bus is and therefore whether or not he jumped a red. I think it's likely he did as I can't imagine the line is that far back, but I will admit I can't be sure.
Are those megabusses fitted with CCTV like normal busses are nowadays? That would answer the question if it does become messy later on.
Dave, I'd pop down to the police when you get a chance and hand over the footage if it were me and say that you were a witness. If it's needed I'm sure they'll be back in touch, otherwise at least you did what you could.

For all we know ... <snipped> This too is pure speculation, just like a lot of the other comments made in the thread so far.

Which is precisely why the police should be allowed to deal with the case in possession of as much eye-witness evidence as possible.

I don't think your caricature of my post gives a fair representation of it. My post about going to the local police station was an answer to the OP's question asking how he'd go about reporting the incident.

You're both right. I should have said "it appears" or "probably" rather than "definitely".

Hang on a mo, I don't think my memory is that bad.........

......yep, here it is.
Head to your local police office and tell them you witnessed a coach drive through a junction across traffic which already had a green light and that said bus knocked a cyclist off her bike. Give them a copy of the uncut footage and the reg no of the bus.

People in charge of vehicles that size need to be held to exacting standards of driving.

GC

I stand by my caricature. You painted a pretty biased picture of the drivers actions and I don't need to make any further comment.
